Abstract: PURPOSE: A key frame extracting apparatus, method thereof, broadcasting recording apparatus, and method thereof are provided to efficiently extract a key frame and save the storing space of a broadcasting signal without decoding MPEG-2 stream. CONSTITUTION: A stream information analyzer(110) extracts information about a frame from video stream. A key frame extractor(120) determines a key frame by using frame information. If the number of intra macro blocks is greater than third threshold value, the key frame extractor determines the key frame as a key frame. The key frame extractor calculates the number of skip macro blocks by using CBP(Coded Block Pattern).
