Abstract: An induction heating cooker and control method thereof are provided to heat effectively a container by determining the number of heating coil put on the heating coil group depending on the current value detected through a detection part. An induction heating cooker and control method thereof comprises a plurality of heating coil groups(40,41,42,43) connecting serially a plurality of heating coils(40a~40f,41a~41f,42a~42f,43a~43f); a plurality of inverter units(30,31,32,34) which individually feeds radio frequency power into the heating coil group; a plurality of sensors detecting the current onto the heating coil group; and a control part controlling the operation of the inverter units in order to feed radio frequency power conforming to the number of the heating coil on which the heating coil group are put. The control part determines the number of heater wires on which a container is located according to a plurality of heated coil groups depending on each of current value detected through a plurality of detecting units.
