Abstract: A method for controlling a transmission rate by using an error correction packet and a communication device using the same are provided to meet the demands for a technique which can analyze a cause of a packet loss as occurred and suitably controlling a transmission rate according to the analyzed result in a streaming service in which real time data is transmitted. When an overall packet loss rate is greater than a threshold value, a controller increases the ratio and transmission rate of an error correction packets(S310). A packet providing unit provides the second packet group having a ratio of error correction packets higher than that of the first packet group(S315) and a transmission unit transmits the second packet group to a receiving device(S320). When a transmission unit transmits packets included in the second packet group, a receiving unit receives feedback information regarding the second packet group from the receiving device(S325). The controller stores the received feedback information(S330) and checks whether a threshold time has lapsed from a point of time when the second packet group was started to be transmitted(S335). When the threshold time has lapsed, the controller calculates an average value of data packet loss rates included in each feedback information(S340). The controller compares the calculated average value with a stored data packet loss rate and if the average value is greater(S345), the controller maintains the rate of the error correction packets and the transmission rate at the level when the first packet group was transmitted(S350).
