It includes a high-pass filter (10) for passing only high frequency component of input video, a field pixel difference detector (20) for detecting that the number of lines in one frame exceeds a certain number, a frame pixel differnece detector (30) for detecting that the average value of each pixel exceeds a certain reference level, a controller (40) for generating switching control signal from the outputs of the detectors (20,30), and a switch (SW1) for selecting one of the outputs of an edge compensator (60) and a delaying section (80).
