PURPOSE: A 2-[2-styryl-6-arylpyridine-4(1H)-ylidene]malononitrile derivative is provided to manufacture an optical sensor for measuring pH concentration in natural science and applied science because the intensity of fluorescence changes 30 times at pH 2-7 or pH 8-11. CONSTITUTION: A 2-[2-styryl-6-arylpyridine-4(1H)-ylidene]malononitrile derivative is denoted by chemical formula 1. A method for preparing the derivative comprises the step of reacting a compound of chemical formula 2 and a compound of chemical formula 3. A composition for a pH sensor contains the derivative as a fluorescent dye. The fluorescence intensity of the composition changes at pH 2-7 or pH 8-11.
