Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a method for decreasing depression by inhibiting the activity of N-type calcium channel. Also, provided are a method for screening an anti-depression agent by using N-type calcium channel and an anti-depression agent containing, as an active ingredient, an inhibitor of N-type calcium channel. CONSTITUTION: A method for decreasing depression is characterized by inhibiting alpha 1B activity of N-type calcium channel. An anti-depression agent contains, an active ingredient, an inhibitor of alpha 1B of N-type calcium channel, wherein the inhibitor is selected from the group consisting of compounds which specifically act on N-type calcium channel to inhibit the activity thereof, antibodies which specifically bind to N-type calcium channel, coding genes of N-type calcium channel, and inhibitors which inhibit the translation of transcribed N-type calcium channel genes.
