    Abstract: A method for encoding/decoding moving picture data and an apparatus therefor are provided to enhance a compression rate by encoding only an index of the most similar vector as a residual transform coefficient among Nx1 vectors corresponding to respective indexes of a codebook in the codebook of residual transform coefficients configured through previous training from different images. A transform and quantization unit(108) generates a vector corresponding to a residual transform coefficient for transforming and quantizing a residual block corresponding to difference between a current block and a predictive block. An optimum vector search unit(110) searches the most similar reference vector as the generated vector among reference vectors corresponding to residual transform coefficients of a sample image. An entropy coding unit(112) performs the entropy coding of an index matched to the searched reference vector.

CONSTITUTION: When an encoder applies a diagonal down-left direction to a prediction mode, the encoder determines pixels in E,F,G,H as reference pixels to encode a sub block. When the diagonal down-left direction is determined as a prediction direction, the encoder determines an encoding sequence in order of an upper right end (430), an upper left end (440), a lower right end (450), and a lower left end (460).
