Abstract: PURPOSE: An image recognizing apparatus using a scalable compact local descriptor and a method thereof are provided to generate scalable feature descriptors having different sizes and different processing speeds according to purposes, thereby differently extracting the descriptors according to descriptor storage spaces and the performance of an extractor. CONSTITUTION: A feature descriptor extractor extracts scalable compact local feature descriptor information, for recognizing an object, from input image information. A database (140) includes a plurality of feature descriptor information. A feature descriptor matching unit (130) compares a feature descriptor output from a feature descriptor generator (120) with a feature descriptor stored in the database, and recognizes an object included in the image.
