The device for estimating a channel of a frequency area comprises: a DFT estimation selecting unit to calculate a mean signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) from a cluster-based least square (LS) estimation result and select one of multiple DFT estimation manners according to the difference; a first DFT estimating unit to perform a channel estimation of a frequency area by using only one DFT estimator under the assumption that the LS estimation results of two clusters are consecutively allocated and equally transmitted according to the selection of the DFT estimation manner; and a second DFT estimating unit to perform a channel estimation of a frequency area so that the respective channel frequency responses can be obtained by separately using the DFT estimators for the two clusters according to the selection of the DFT estimation manner. Therefore, the device of the present invention can use an optimum DFT estimation manner according to the difference in channel frequency selectivity between the two clusters, thereby maximizing the channel estimation performance.

    Abstract: A receiver for detecting random access preambles in a mobile communication system is provided to detect a receiving path of each receiving antenna and the random access preambles received to multiple random access channels through multi-antennas to process signals received from the multi-antennas. A peak detector(400) provides preamble information about the plural receiving signals for controlling a receiver on the basis of the maximum power value in the power values of the outputted power information.
