    Abstract: A display system for sensing a user body portion, including a display panel configured to form an image for viewing by the user, an optical reflector having a plurality of polymeric layers, and at least one optical sensor for sensing a visible light having at least one visible wavelength and an infrared light having at least one infrared wavelength. The optical sensor senses the visible and infrared lights after the visible and infrared lights are transmitted by the optical reflector. The optical reflector has an average optical reflectance greater than 80% in the visible wavelength range, an optical transmittance greater than about 50% at the infrared wavelength, an optical transmittance of greater than about 2% and less than about 10% at the visible wavelength, and an optical transmittance versus wavelength with a bandpass segment having a full width at half maximum that includes the visible wavelength..

    Abstract: An optical filter has an average optical transmission of greater than about 50% in a visible wavelength range (e.g., wavelengths from about 420 nm to about 550 nm) and an optical density greater than about 1.5 in an infrared wavelength range (e.g., wavelengths from about 650 nm to about 800 nm). The optical filter can have a sharp band edge between the visible and infrared ranges. For example, a change in percent transmission of at least about 30% can occur over a wavelength range not greater than about 10 nm wide and/or the slope of the band edge can be greater than about 5%/nm. An optical system includes the optical filter disposed between an emissive display and an optical sensor.

    Abstract: A backlight (100) for an image forming device (70) includes spaced- apart front and back optical reflectors (20, 10) defining an optical cavity (18) therebetween, and at least one light source (15) for emitting light into the optical cavity. The front optical reflector (20) is disposed between the image forming device and the back optical reflector (10). For substantially normally incident light and for non-overlapping first (e.g. visible light) and second (e.g. infrared) wavelength ranges, the front optical reflector (20) may transmit (80c) at least 70% of light (80a) for each wavelength in the first wavelength range, and may reflect (90b) at least 70% of light (90a) for each wavelength in the second wavelength range. The back optical reflector (10) may reflect (80b) at least 70% of light for each wavelength in the first wavelength range, and may transmit (90c) at least 70% of light (90b) for each wavelength in the second wavelength range. The light (80a, 90a) emitted by the at least one light source (15) has at least one wavelength in the first wavelength range and at least one wavelength in the second wavelength range.
