Abstract: A flame resistant electrical insulating material comprises glass fibers, a particulate filler mixture, and an inorganic binder, wherein the electrical insulating material has a UL-94 flammability rating of V-0, 5VA and a thermal conductivity of less than 0.15 W/m-K. The particulate filler mixture comprises at least two particulate filler materials selected from the list of glass bubbles, kaolin clay, talc, mica, calcium carbonate, and alumina trihydrate. In an exemplary aspect, the insulating material is not punctured after direct exposure to 2054° C. (3730° F.) flame for at least 10 minutes.

Abstract: A barrier article comprises a multilayer article that includes a plurality of core layers and a plurality of binder layers, wherein at least one core layer includes a woven or nonwoven fiber mat or fabric, and wherein at least one binder layer includes a silicone material. The plurality of core layers and binder layers are arranged in an alternating manner. The barrier article is operatively adapted to survive or withstand at least seven cycles of the Torch and Grit Test. The barrier article can be flexible and can provide a thermal insulation and blast protection barrier in, for example, a rechargeable electrical energy storage system.

Abstract: A multilayer material for use as a thermal insulation barrier and/or flame barrier in a rechargeable electrical energy storage system is provided. The multilayer material comprises at least one inorganic fabric layer bonded to a nonwoven layer comprising inorganic particles and inorganic fibers by an inorganic adhesive, wherein the inorganic adhesive. The inorganic adhesive can be a modified inorganic adhesive comprising at least 99 wt. % inorganic constituents and an organic additive of at least 0.01 wt. % and less than 1 wt. % based on a total solids content of the inorganic adhesive.

Abstract: A three dimensional flame barrier is described herein. The three dimensional flame barrier comprises a flame resistant material, wherein the flame resistant barrier has a complex geometry that is defined by a height, width and length, wherein the height of the complex geometry is substantially greater than the thickness of the flame resistant material from which it is formed wherein the flame resistant material comprises inorganic fibers, inorganic particles and an inorganic binder. In some embodiments, the flame barrier article can further comprise a fire protection coating disposed on a first major surface of the flame barrier material.
