    Abstract: A package for protecting a light sensitive material is disclosed. The package includes an optical film including a plurality of polymeric layers. For a substantially normally incident light, an optical transmittance of the optical film versus wavelength includes a band edge separating a first wavelength range including at least wavelengths from about 360 nm to about 400 nm from a second wavelength range including at least wavelengths from about 520 nm to about 680 nm. The optical film has an average optical transmittance of less than about 15% in the first wavelength range and an average optical transmittance of greater than about 70% in the second wavelength range.

    Abstract: An optical stack for reflecting and transmitting light in a predetermined wavelength range includes stacked first and second optical films, the predetermined wavelength range defining a first wavelength range and a remaining wavelength range. For normally incident light and for each wavelength in a first wavelength range, the first optical film substantially reflects light having a first polarization state, and substantially transmits light having a second polarization state. For each of the first and second polarization states, for wavelengths in the first wavelength range, the second optical film has a maximum optical transmittance Tmax for light incident at a first incident angle, and an optical transmittance Tmax/2 for light incident at a second incident angle, where the second incident angle is greater than the first incident angle by less than about 50 degrees. For wavelengths in the remaining wavelength range, the second optical film reflects at least 80% of light.

    Abstract: A display system includes a light source configured to emit light from a light exit surface, the emitted light having an emitted wavelength. An optical filter is disposed on the light exit surface of the light source. One or more light converting films are disposed between the optical filter and the light exit surface of the light source. The one or more light converting films are configured to receive the emitted light from the light source and convert at least portions of the received emitted light to blue, green, and red lights having respective blue, green and red wavelengths. For a substantially normally incident light and for at least an in-plane first polarization state, the optical filter reflects more than about 80% of the incident light having the emitted wavelength, and transmits greater than about 60% of the incident light for each of the blue, green and red wavelengths.

    Abstract: An optical filter has an average optical transmission of greater than about 50% in a visible wavelength range (e.g., wavelengths from about 420 nm to about 550 nm) and an optical density greater than about 1.5 in an infrared wavelength range (e.g., wavelengths from about 650 nm to about 800 nm). The optical filter can have a sharp band edge between the visible and infrared ranges. For example, a change in percent transmission of at least about 30% can occur over a wavelength range not greater than about 10 nm wide and/or the slope of the band edge can be greater than about 5%/nm. An optical system includes the optical filter disposed between an emissive display and an optical sensor.

    Abstract: A backlight (100) for an image forming device (70) includes spaced-apart front and back optical reflectors (20, 10) defining an optical cavity (18) therebetween, and at least one light source (15) for emitting light into the optical cavity. The front optical reflector (20) is disposed between the image forming device and the back optical reflector (10). For substantially normally incident light and for non-overlapping first (e.g. visible light) and second (e.g. infrared) wavelength ranges, the front optical reflector (20) may transmit (80c) at least 70% of light (80a) for each wavelength in the first wavelength range, and may reflect (90b) at least 70% of light (90a) for each wavelength in the second wavelength range. The back optical reflector (10) may reflect (80b) at least 70% of light for each wavelength in the first wavelength range, and may transmit (90c) at least 70% of light (90b) for each wavelength in the second wavelength range. The light (80a, 90a) emitted by the at least one light source (15) has at least one wavelength in the first wavelength range and at least one wavelength in the second wavelength range.

    Abstract: Polymeric multilayer optical films are described. More particularly, polymeric multilayer optical films having a first optical packet and a second optical packet are described. The second optical packet is disposed on the first optical packet. How the configuration of the layers of the optical packets affect hemispheric reflectivity of the overall film is also described. The polymeric multilayer optical film reflects more than 95% of light from 400 nm to 700 nm at normal incidence.

    Abstract: An optical film includes a plurality of first layers disposed on a plurality of second layers. For each angle of incidence in an incident angle range of 0-50 degrees, an optical transmittance of each of the optical film and the plurality of second layers versus wavelength includes a band edge disposed in a transition wavelength range separating a visible wavelength range where the optical film and the plurality of second layers have respective average optical transmittances Tv and Tv2 from an infrared wavelength range where the optical film and the plurality of second layers have respective average optical transmittances Ti and Ti2. Each of Tv and Tv2 is greater than about 30%. An average value of Tv2 is greater than an average value of Tv by at least 5%. An average value of Ti is less than an average value of Ti2 by at least 20%.
