Abstract: A multilayer partial mirror includes a plurality of alternating first a second polymeric layers numbering at least 50 in total, disposed between, and integrally formed with, opposing first and second polymeric skin layers. For a visible wavelength range extending from about 420 nm to about 680 nm and an incident light propagating in an incident plane that includes a x-direction, and for an s-polarized incident light, the multilayer partial mirror has an average reflectance Rs1 for a first incident angle of less than about 10 degrees, and an average reflectance Rs2 for a second incident angle of greater than about 45 degrees, and for a p-polarized incident light, the multilayer partial mirror has an average reflectance Rp1 for the first incident angle, and an average reflectance Rp2 for the second incident angle. Each of Rs2/Rs1 and Rp2/Rp1 is greater than about 1.15.

Abstract: An optical film includes a plurality of alternating first and second layers. The first layers have a first in-plane birefringence, the second layers have a second in-plane birefringence, and the second in-plane birefringence is less than the first in-plane birefringence and greater than 0.03. The first layers may include polyethylene terephthalate homopolymer and the second layers may include glycol-modified co(polyethylene terephthalate). The optical film has a shrinkage along a first direction of greater than 4% and a shrinkage along an orthogonal second direction of greater than 3% when heated at 150° C. for 15 minutes. A glass laminate is prepared by disposing the optical film between glass layers and laminating the optical film to the glass layers.

Abstract: An optical system for displaying a virtual image to a viewer includes stacked integral first reflective polarizer and integral second reflective polarizer, a display, and a mirror. For substantially normally incident light: for at least one visible wavelength in a first wavelength range, the first reflective polarizer reflects at least 60% of the incident light having a first polarization state and transmits at least 60% of the incident light having an orthogonal second polarization state, and the second reflective polarizer transmits at least 60% of the incident light for each of the first and second polarization states; and for at least one infrared wavelength in a second wavelength range, the first reflective polarizer reflects at least 60% of the incident light having the first polarization state and transmits at least 60% of the incident light having the second polarization state, and the second reflective polarizer reflects at least 60% of the incident light having the second polarization state and transmits at least 20% of the light having the first polarization state.

Abstract: A multilayer optical film includes a plurality of polymeric layers arranged sequentially adjacent to each other. A difference in thickness between spaced apart first and second polymeric layers in the plurality of polymeric layers is less than about 10%. Each polymeric layer that is disposed between the first and second polymeric layers has a thickness less than about 400 nm. Each layer in a group of at least three polymeric layers in the plurality of polymeric layers that are disposed between the first and second polymeric layers has a thickness greater than an average thickness of the first and second polymeric layers by about 20% to about 500%. The group of at least three polymeric layers includes at least one pair of immediately adjacent polymeric layers.

Abstract: A display (1000) including a display panel (130) and a polarizer (110) disposed to receive a light (150) output of the display panel (130) is described. The polarizer (150) may be a reflective polarizer (110) or a circular polarizer (100) incorporating a reflective polarizer (110). The display panel (130) includes a plurality of pixels and each pixel includes a plurality of subpixels. The reflective polarizer (110) has a first reflection band, wherein at normal incidence, the first reflection band has a long wavelength band edge wavelength between peak emission wavelengths of two subpixels in the plurality of subpixels. The reflective polarizer (110) may be disposed between an absorbing polarizer (106) and a retarder (108) in a circular polarizer (100). The reflective polarizer (110) may have substantially non-overlapping first, second, and third reflection bands.

Abstract: A multilayer optical film includes a plurality of optical repeat units which may number less than about 175 in total and which may have a combined average thickness of less than about 20 micrometers. Each of the optical repeat units includes at least four individual layers which may include at least one polymeric A layer, at least two B layers, and at least one polymeric C layer. At least one layer in the at least four individual layers can have an average thickness of less than about 50 nm. An interlayer adhesion of the individual layers in the plurality of optical repeat units can be at least about 14 grams per inch when measured at a 90 degree peel angle. The multilayer optical film may be a reflective polarizer or a multilayer optical mirror.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a reflective polarizer including a plurality of polymeric first layers and a plurality of polymeric second layers. A plot of an average layer thickness versus a layer number for the pluralities of polymeric first, but not second, layers includes a knee region separating a left region including at least 50 sequentially arranged polymeric first layers. The polymeric first layers have lower layer numbers, and the average layer thickness increases with increasing layer number from a right region including at least 5 sequentially arranged polymeric first layers. The polymeric first layers have higher layer numbers and the average thickness increases with increasing layer number, such that linear fits to the at least 50 sequentially arranged polymeric first layers and to the at least 5 sequentially arranged polymeric first layers have respective positive slopes S1 and S2, S2/S1≥5.

Abstract: An optical lens includes a lens substrate including a cyclic olefin copolymer, an optical film including a plurality of alternating first and second polymeric layers, and a bonding film disposed on, and bonding the optical film to, a major surface of the lens substrate. The bonding film causes an average peel force to separate the optical film from the lens substrate to be greater than about 100 g/in while maintaining for at least one outermost major surface of the optical film, a mean displacement surface roughness Sa of less than about 10 nm and a slope magnitude error of less than about 100 μrad, and/or lower and higher spatial frequency slope magnitude errors each less than about 100 μrad.

Abstract: A display includes a pixelated emission surface including a plurality of blue, green and red light emitting pixels having emission peaks at respective blue, green and red peak wavelengths. The display includes a plurality of blue light emitting sources aligned to the plurality of blue, green and red light emitting pixels in a one-to-one correspondence. An optical film is disposed between the emission surface and the plurality of blue light emitting sources. Each region of the optical film that is disposed between a blue light emitting source and the corresponding blue light emitting pixel transmits at least 70% of substantially normally incident light having the blue peak wavelength. Each region of the optical film that is disposed between a blue light emitting source and the corresponding green or red light emitting pixel reflects at least 50% of substantially normally incident light having the blue peak wavelength.
