    Abstract: A high voltage DC breaker apparatus configured to break a fault current occurring in a high voltage DC conductor (15) comprises a current limiting arrangement (11) having at least one section (12) with at least one semiconductor device (13) of turn-off type and at least one arrester (14) connected in parallel therewith, and a mechanical DC breaker (18) connected in series with the current limiting arrangement and including a mechanical switch (19). The mechanical DC breaker is configured to enable breaking of a fault current in said DC conductor (15) once said semiconductor devices of said arrangement have been turned off.

    Abstract: A Voltage Source Converter has a series connection of switching assemblies, in which each switching assembly (7) has an electrically conducting plate member (30) carrying a plurality of semiconductor chips (31) each having at least a semiconductor device of turn-off and a free-wheeling diode connected in parallel therewith. Said chips are connected in parallel with each other by each being connected by at least one individual conductor member (35, 36) to a said plate member of an adjacent switching assembly of said series connection. Each switching assembly has a mechanical switch (39) configured to be open under normal operation of the switching assembly and configured to enable connection of said plate member of the switching assembly to the plate member of an adjacent switching assembly for bypassing said semiconductor chips of the switching assembly to which the mechanical switch belongs in the case of occurrence of a short circuit current through a semiconductor chip of the switching assembly.

    Abstract: A DC cable for high voltages has at least an inner conductor (8) surrounded by an insulating layer (10) configured to take the voltage to be taken between the conductor and the surroundings of the cable. The insulating layer is formed by a plurality of superimposed film-like layers (12) of insulating material each having isolated areas of metal (13) on top thereof. The metal areas of consecutive such film-like layers are at least partially overlapping each other as seen in the radial direction of the cable so as to create a large number of small capacitors in said insulating layer of the cable.
