    Abstract: Una instalación para transmitir energía eléctrica a través de Corriente Continua de Alta Tensión (HVDC) quecomprende dos estaciones convertidoras (101, 102) interconectadas por una red (103) de tensión continua bipolar y cadauna conectada a una red (104, 105) de tensión alterna para alimentar energía eléctrica desde una de dichas redes detensión alterna a la otra, teniendo cada estación convertidora un Convertidor de Fuente de Tensión M2LC (106, 107) quetiene al menos una pata de fase (2-4) que conecta a polos opuestos (5, 6) del lado de tensión continua del convertidor yque comprende una conexión en serie de las celdas de conmutación (7, 7'), teniendo cada una de dichas celdas deconmutación, una salida de fase (10-12) del convertidor que está configurada para ser conectada a un lado de tensiónalterna del convertidor que es formado entre dos celdas de conmutación a lo largo de dicha conexión en serie de celdasde conmutación, estando configurada cada celda de conmutación para obtener dos estados de conmutación, enparticular un primer estado de conmutación y un segundo estado de conmutación, en los que la tensión a través de almenos dicho condensador de almacenamiento de energía y una tensión cero, respectivamente, es aplicada a través delos terminales de la celda de conmutación, para obtener una tensión alterna determinada en dicha salida de fase,caracterizada por que dichos Convertidores de Fuente de Tensión están configurados para utilizar una tensión continuaque tiene una magnitud mayor para uno primero (5) de los polos que para uno segundo (6) de los mismos con respecto atierra, dónde la magnitud es de 5 a 10 veces mayor para dicho primer polo (5) que dicha magnitud de tensión de dichosegundo polo (6) y que es asimétrica con respecto a tierra para crear dicha tensión alterna en dicha salida de fase delconvertidor respectivo.

    Abstract: A DC cable for high voltages has at least an inner conductor (8) surrounded by an insulating layer (10) configured to take the voltage to be taken between the conductor and the surroundings of the cable. The insulating layer is formed by a plurality of superimposed film-like layers (12) of insulating material each having isolated areas of metal (13) on top thereof. The metal areas of consecutive such film-like layers are at least partially overlapping each other as seen in the radial direction of the cable so as to create a large number of small capacitors in said insulating layer of the cable.

    Abstract: A device (13) to break an electrical current flowing through a power transmission or distribution line (14) comprises a parallel connection of a main breaker (8) and a non-linear resistor (11), where the main breaker (8) comprises at least one power semiconductor switch of a first current direction. The device (13) further comprises a series connection of a high speed switch (10) comprising at least one mechanical switch and of an auxiliary breaker (9), the auxiliary breaker having a smaller on-resistance than the main breaker (8) and comprising at least one power semiconductor switch of the first current direction. The series connection is connected in parallel to the parallel connection. In a method to use the device (13) first the auxiliary breaker (9) is opened, thereby commutating the current to the main breaker (8), afterwards the high speed switch (10) is opened and afterwards the main breaker (8) is opened thereby commutating the current to the non-linear resistor (11). The device (13) can further be used in a current limiting arrangement.

    Abstract: A plant for transmitting electric power comprises a high voltage DC line (4-7), a DC breaker (8-13) connected in series with the DC line and configured to break a fault current upon occurrence of a fault on said DC line, means (21) configured to detect occurrence of a fault current, a control unit (22) configured to control a said DC breaker for protecting equipment connected to the DC line upon occurrence of a said fault current and means configured to dissipate energy stored in a faulty current path of the DC line between said location (23) and these means upon occurrence of a said fault to the moment of said control of said DC breaker. The energy dissipating means comprises a series connection of an energy consuming braking resistor (28) and a free-wheeling rectifying member (29) connected between ground and said DC line to conduct current while forming a free-wheeling path therethrough upon said control of said DC breaker upon occurrence of a said fault.
