Abstract:
An electronic device with a display displays a user interface on the display. The device determines a first set of content-display values for one or more content-display properties of first content that corresponds to a respective region of the display. The device determines a first set of control-appearance values for one or more control-appearance parameters based on the first set of content-display values. The device displays a control in the respective region of the display, wherein an appearance of the control is determined based on the first content and the first set of control-appearance values.
Abstract:
One aspect of the invention involves a method that includes: in a first area of the touch screen, displaying a current character string being input by a user with the keyboard; in a second area of the touch screen, displaying the current character string or a portion thereof and a suggested replacement for the current character string; replacing the current character string in the first area with the suggested replacement if the user activates a delimiter key on the keyboard; replacing the current character string in the first area with the suggested replacement if the user performs a first gesture on the suggested replacement displayed in the second area; and keeping the current character string in the first area if the user performs a second gesture on the current character string or the portion thereof displayed in the second area.
Abstract:
Word recommendations are provided in response to text input. For a particular text input, possible word recommendations are identified based on the characters of the input and corresponding neighbor characters on a keyboard layout. The possible word recommendations are scored based on how closely they match the input word on a character- by-character basis, and a subset of the possible word recommendations are selected for presentation to the user.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for displaying soft keyboards at a portable electronic device with a touch screen display is disclosed. An application with a plurality of objects is displayed on the touch screen display. A first gesture by a user on a first object in the plurality of objects is detected. In response to the first gesture, a first soft keyboard is displayed that contains a plurality of keys including primarily letter keys and including a key for selecting a second soft keyboard different from the first soft keyboard. A second gesture by the user on a second object in the plurality of objects is detected, the second object being other than the key for selecting the second soft keyboard. In response to the second gesture, the second soft keyboard is displayed, which contains a plurality of keys including number keys and including a key for selecting the first soft keyboard.
Abstract:
In some embodiments, a device displays content on a touch screen display and detects input by finger gestures. In response to the finger gestures, the device selects content, visually distinguishes the selected content, and/or updates the selected content based on detected input. In some embodiments, the device displays a command display area that includes one or more command icons; detects activation of a command icon in the command display area; and, in response to detecting activation of the command icon in the command display area, performs a corresponding action with respect to the selected content. Exemplary actions include cutting, copying, and pasting content.
Abstract:
A method comprising: at a portable electronic device with a touch-sensitive display,: displaying a window and an insertion marker at a first location in the window on the touch-sensitive display; detecting a single-finger gesture on the touch-sensitive display; in response to the detected single-finger gesture on the touch-sensitive display, expanding a first portion of the window that comprises at least a part of texts and the insertion marker from a first size to a second size; displaying a magnifying screen that includes the expanded view of the first portion of the window; detecting movement of a single finger on the touch-sensitive display while the magnifying screen is displayed; and in response to detecting the movement of the single finger on the touch-sensitive display, replacing the display of the expanded view of the first portion of the window with an expanded view of a second portion of the window in the magnifying screen.
Abstract:
