Abstract: PURPOSE:To maintain a stable electrodialyzing performance over an extended period of time by attaching a gasket frame and a spacer firmly into an integral form by means of a thermoplastic elastomer interposed between the inner peripheral edge of the gasket frame and the outer peripheral edge of the spacer. CONSTITUTION:In a gasket with a spacer 2a provided in an electric nonconducting part and/or conducting part of a gasket frame 1a, the spacer 2a is of such size as to keep its outer peripheral edge out of contact with the inner peripheral edge of the gasket frame 1a. And the gasket frame 1a and the spacer 2a are firmly attached into an integral form by a thermoplastic elastomer interposed between the inner peripheral edge of the gasket frame 1a and the outer peripheral edge of the spacer 2a. As a result, this method provides no liq. leakage even with a lower pressure applied for the gasket attachment than in the case of the conventional gasket for use in electrodialysis and, unlike the prior art gasket attaching methods, there is no problem of damages to ion-exchange membrane at the gasket attachment and a stable electrodialyzing performance can be maintained over an extended period of time.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled gasket having a large current conducting area without causing the decomposition of water and the deposition of scales by fixing a diagonal net consisting essentially of polyolefin and having specified thickness and the radius of curvature of the zigzag at more than a specified value in a gasket frame as a spacer. CONSTITUTION:A diagonal net made of polyolefin and having 0.3-0.6mm thickness and >=30m radius of curvature of the zigzag is used and a current conducting part spacer 4 for a gasket frame is formed. The spacer is stuck on a site 5 on the two opposite sides of a gasket frame 1 provided with a salt passage 2 and fixed to form a gasket. Plural sheets of the gaskets are used for a dilution chamber and a condensation chamber, the gaskets are alternately assembled by using a cation-exchange membrane and an anion-exchange membrane, the assembly is temporarily tightened by a clamping frame, the assembly is set in a filter press-type electrodialyzing vessel and the whole body is clamped.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a gasket for electrodialysis cell which is free from leakage of dialyzate and has high durability by forming net-like spacer parts forming salt liquid passing parts and a gasket frame to one body. CONSTITUTION:Belt-like bodies of vulcanized natural rubber are joined together by means of adhesive, whereby a picture frame-like gasket frame 3 of 19.6dm effective electricity conducting area is manufactured. Next, notches and holes 5 for communication of liquid are opened alternately in the broad belt-like parts at the top and bottom thereof. On the other hand, an unvulcanized natural rubber sheet added with vulcanizing agent is cut to belt-like bodies, and these are placed on the right and left ends of net-like spacers made of PP and are then hot pressured and molded by vulcanization, whereby salt liquid passing parts 4 are made. These parts are joined to the notch parts of the gasket frame. At the same time, spacers 7 are joined to the electricity conducting parts 6 of the gasket frame as well. According to this method, the gasket formed with the net- like spacers are the gasket frame into one body is obtained easily.
