Abstract:
The production of 3-cyano-3,5,5-trialkylcyclohexanone from the reaction of 3,5,5-trialkylcyclohexenone and hydrocyanide at elevated temperature and in the presence of a catalytic amount of an onium cyanide, is disclosed herein.
Abstract:
A process is provided for producing alkylthio-substituted carboxylic acids and arylthio-substituted carboxylic acids and their corresponding alkylthio-substituted thioesters and arylthio-substituted thioesters. The process comprises reacting a mercaptan with a lactone in the presence of an acidic catalyst at temperatures of about 100°C to about 350°C. The process for preparing the thio-substituted carboxylic acids and thio-substituted thioesters may be a continuous process or a batch process.
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for preparing a composition having improved solvent power for sulfur wherein a composition comprising a sulfide having the general formula RSS a SR′ wherein R and R′ are defined carbon-containing radicals and a is 0 to 3, and a catalyst for improving the ability of said composition to take up sulfur is treated, either before, during or after the addition of said catalyst to said composition, with a primary or secondary amine in an effective amount and for an effective time period.
Abstract:
A process for removing sulfur from an organic sulfide containing three or more chemically bound sulfur atoms is disclosed wherein said sulfide is contacted with a defined catalyst at elevated temperature to increase the disproportionation rate and the corresponding sulfide of lower sulfur rank is continuously removed from the reaction zone.
Abstract:
A composition, useful for dissolving sulfur, comprising a disulfide, polysulfide and mixtures thereof containing a catalytic amount of a mixture of a basic nitrogen-containing compound and an alcoholic or aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide, alkoxide, or carbonate and methods for using the composition to prevent sulfur-plugging in a system, are disclosed.
