    Abstract: The pigment preparations contain a) a finely divided pigment, b) at least one colourant containing at least one external basic group, c) at least one acidic and/or neutral phosphoric acid ester and d) optionally further assistants which are conventional in preparations of this type. The preparations are used for pigmenting printing inks and surface coatings (paints). The printing inks, pastes and surface coatings prepared using the preparations have significantly better flow properties than the inks and coatings obtained using pigments of the prior art.

    Abstract: Prodn. of a readily dispersing fine-grain, brown pigment having the formula: CrxFe2-xO3 (in which 0.1=x=1) is improved in that an aq. soln. of CrO3 (pref. concn. 45-63 wt.%) and/or gaseous CrO2Cl2 is introduced in the form of a spray into a reaction zone in presence of water vapour, gaseous Fe(CO)5 and O2; the reaction is carried out at a temp. >700 degrees C (pref. 700-1000 degrees C); and the resulting solid reaction product remains in the reaction zone for at least 1 sec. (pref. up to 10 sec.) before the withdrawal. These pigments are temp. resistant and light fast. Their prodn. is more convenient than the usual wet coprecipitation of the components, with subsequent sepn. and calcination. These are no- by-products, and high purity pigments are obtd. The colour can be easily controlled (increasing Cr content and, to a lesser extent, prolonged residence time give darker brown colouration.).

    Abstract: Dyes are of formula (I): (where X is the residue of a methylene-active cpd. an aromatic or heterocyclic primary amine, R1 is H or 1-4C alkyl, R2 is 1-4C alkyl, phenyl opt. substd. by Cl, Br, OH, CH3 and/or CH3O, indoyl-2, 2-phenyl indolyl-3- or 2,4-dihydroxyquinolyl-3-gp. or R1 and R2 together with the methylene C atom form a 6-membered carbocycle or a 5- or 6-membered heterocycle opt. joined to a benzene nucleus). Prepared e.g. by condensing a cpd. (I) where the -N=CR1R2 gp. is replaced by H, with a hydrazone H2N-N=CR1R2. e.g. a yellow dye is obtained by condensing 1-(cyano-carbonamido)-3-imino-isoindolene with 3-acetyl-2:4-dihydroxy-quinoline hydrazone.
