Abstract: A polyol component used for the production of polyurethane foam contains at least one ethoxylated compound with 3-8 reactive hydrogen atoms and a high ethylene oxide content plus low-molecular weight polyfunctional chain-extenders and/or crosslinkers with a high hydroxyl number. Production of polyurethane (PUR) foam comprises reacting (a) optionally modified di- and/or poly-isocyanates, with (b) high-molecular weight compound(s) with at least two reactive hydrogen atoms, (c) ethylene oxide adduct(s) with 3-8, preferably 3-6 reactive H atoms, an ethylene oxide (EO) content of more than 50 wt.% and an OH number of 200-800 mg KOH/g, and (d) low-molecular weight chain- extenders and/or crosslinkers with at least two reactive H atoms and an OH number of more than 700 mg KOH/g, in the presence of (e) blowing agents, (f) catalysts, and optionally (g) other additives etc. An Independent claim is also included for PUR foam containing the above components, in which the amounts of (c) and (d) (based on the weight of components (b)-(g)) are 0.5-10 and 0.5-6 wt.% respectively, preferably with a mol. ratio of (c):(d) = 10-0.3, especially 3.0-0.3.

Abstract: The prepn. is of catalytically-active polyether-polyols (I) by base-catalysed reaction of H-functional starters (II) with alkylene oxide (III) under the usual conditions. The polymerisation of (III) is catalysed by adding a combination of base and (in)organic alkali(ne earth) salt(s) in stages and/or the catalyst is removed by special crystal formation and removal by adding acids and removing the salts before concluding the crystal formation or conversion phase. Also claimed are (I) per se.
