    Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of the formula where X is H and Y is -Z-Ar-[SO2-N(A)B]n or X is -Z-Ar-[SO2N(A)B]n and Y is OH, Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon which may contain other substituents, A is H or hydroxyalkyl, B is H, alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms or hydroxyalkyl, Z is oxygen or sulphur, and n is 1 or 2. The compounds are prepared by reacting comounds of the formulae and with chlorosulphonic acid or with sulphuric acid or oleum and a halogenating agent to form the sulphonyl chloride which is then reacted with a compound of the formula A-NH-B.

    Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of the formula where Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon which may bear other substituents, A is H or a hydroxyalkyl group, B is H, an alkyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms or an hydroxyalkyl group, D is oxygen or sulphur, E is H when F is either -D-Ar[SO2N(A)B]n or -NHCH2CH2Ar[SO2-N(A)B]n and E is -D-Ar-[SO2N(A)B]n when F is NH2 and n is 1 or 2. The compounds are prepared by first converting compounds of the formula where G is -D-ArHn when J is NH2 and G is H when J is either -D-ArHn or -NHCH2-CH2-ArHn, into their sulphochlorides with chlorosulphonic acid or with sulphuric acid or oleum and halogenating agents, and then treating the sulphoclorides with A-NH-B.

    Abstract: The invention comprises anthraquinone dyes of the formula wherein Z represents a hydrogen or halogen atom or a C1- 4 alkyl group; A represents a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group, and n is 0, 1 or 2. They may be obtained by treating anthraquinone compounds of the formula with at least a stoichiometric amount of chlorosulphonic acid at a temperature up to 70 DEG C. and reacting the resultant sulphochlorides with at least an equimolar amount of NH3, or a primary or secondary amine including heterocyclic bases containing nitrogen in the ring. Examples are given for the production of the dyes. They may be used for dyeing or printing fibrous synthetic material such as polyamides, polyurethanes, polyesters, wool, silk, secondary acetate rayon, cellulose triacetate and natural or regenerated cellulose.
