Abstract: A process for the production of NaHCO3 and NH4Cl by reaction of NH3 and CO2 in a mother liquor containing NaCl comprises adding all the required NH3 to the liquor but only sufficient CO2 to saturate the liquor, at not more than 60 DEG C., with NaHCO3; introducing the liquor to a second stage at not more than 35 DEG C. and adding the rest of the CO2, precipitating and separating the NaHCO3 without cooling, dissolving fresh NaCl in the liquor, cooling to precipitate NH4Cl, separating and recycling the liquor to the first stage. The process of the invention reduces encrustation of NaHCO3 on the apparatus.

Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of formula R1 is an ortho-phenylene radical condensed with the hetero ring in the manner indicated by the valance lines, which may be substituted and which is free from ionogenic water-solubilizing groups, R2 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group, R3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, X is a cyano, carbonamido-substituted carbonamido or carboxyl group and R4 is a benzene radical containing only one nitro group, which is in o-position to the azo group and if desired further substituents but is free from ionogenic water-solubilizing groups. When R2 is a hydrogen atom the dyes of the above formula are tautomeric with the corresponding hydrazone from, i.e. The dyes are prepared by coupling a diazotized o-nitroaniline with a suitable benzimidazole and when R2 is a hydrogen atom the dyes may be alkylated. The dyes may be used to dye and print mordanted cotton, leather, cellulose ester and ether, polyamide, polyester and polyurethane materials in yellow and orange shades. Examples describe the preparation of the dyes by coupling process.ALSO:1,3 - dimethyl - 2 -carboxylicamidomethylenebenzimidazoline is prepared by treating 1,3-dimethyl - 2 - cyanomethylenebenzimidazoline with 96% sulphuric acid at below 25 DEG C. for 2 hours, mixing with ice and neutralising with caustic soda.

Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of formula wherein Z is a divalent radical which may contain one or more hetero atoms, necessary for the completion of a 5- or 6-membered ring which may bear fixed rings and may be substituted, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical which may be substituted, a cyclohexyl, benzyl or phenyl radical, R2 is an alkyl radical which may be substituted, A is a divalent radical completing a substituted or unsubstituted 5- or 6-membered mono- or poly-nuclear heterocyclic ring system, X is a formly, carboxylic acid, carboxylic acid ester, carboxylic acid hydrazide, a substituted or unsubstituted carboxylic acid amide, a carboxylic thioamide group or an acyl group of an aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acid, E is the equivalent of an anion, m is 1 or 2 and n is 1 or 2. The dyes are prepared by (a) coupling a diazo compound of an amine of formula with a heterocyclic methylene compound of formula or (b) reacting a hydrazone of formula with a heterocyclic methylene compound as specified above in the presence of a dehydrogenating or oxidizing agent. The dyes so prepared may be subsequently alkylated. The dyes may be used to colour mordanted cotton, leather, cellulose ethers and esters, polyamides, polyurethane, polyester and, in particular, polyacrylonitrile materials in yellow and red shades. In examples, dyes wherein the ring is a benzthiazole, thiodiazole, indazole, thiazole or triazole ring and the heterocyclic methylene compound is a benzimidazole, or indoline derivative are specified.

The dyes of the formula I are very suitable for dyeing synthetic textile materials, especially polyesters.
