Abstract: The disclosure relates to monoclinic 2-chloro-N-(4'-chlorobiphenyl-2-yl)-nicotinamide of formula (I), which melts at a temperature of between 147 and 148 DEG C, and to a method for producing the same. The process for the preparation of this crystalline modification of the anhydrate of boscalid comprises: (a) 2-chloro-N-(4'-chlorobiphenyl-2-yl)nicotinamide of formula (I) that melts at 144-145 DEG C. is dissolved in a protic polar solvent or an aromatic hydrocarbon and (b) crystallizes out of the solvent after cooling. This crystalline modification of the anhydrate of boscalid is used as a herbicide for controlling harmful fungi.
