    Abstract: Catalysts are made, esp. suited for continuous prodn. of phthalic acid anhydride by air oxidation of o-xylene or naphthalene, by applying a then active layer of a mixt. contg. 1-30 (1-15) wt.% V2O5, 99-40 (99-50) wt.% ZrO2 and 0-59 (0-49) wt.% TiO2 to an inert, non-porous carrier. The specific surface of the ZrO2 should be 2-25 (5-20)m2/g, and of the TiO2 pref. in the anatase form 5-30 (5-20)m2/g. The active mass is pref. 2-15 (3-10) wt.% relative to the carrier and the final V2O5 content 0.05-3wt.%. The products are highly effective oxidn. catalysts of prolonged useful life.
