Abstract: Emulsions containing polyether alcohols and polyester alcohols are used in the production of hard foams based on isocyanates to improve the temperature stability of the foams. Temperature-stable hard foams based on isocyanates are produced by reacting (a) polyisocyanates with (b) compounds with at least two hydrogen atoms reactive with isocyanate groups and (c) water in the presence of (d) propellants and optionally catalysts and auxiliary aids and additives. (b) comprises (bi) a polyether alcohol present in an amount of 0.2-80 wt.% and having a functionality of at least 1.5 and an OH number of 10-100 mg KOH/g, and (bii) a polyester alcohol present in an amount of 5-90 wt.%. (c) is present in an amount of maximum 2 wt.%. (d) contains hydrocarbons and/or hydrocarbons containing fluorine in an amount of 5-30 wt.%.

Abstract: Manufacture of tubes insulated with plastic foam takes place in a new process, in which: (a) Between an internal medium tube (for future thermal medium flow e.g. of hot water) and a parallel outer casing tube, a spacer including opening(s) is located; this moves axially and carries the tube externally; (b) foaming mixture is introduced from an opening, into the space between the tubes (note: a total of at least three tubes is involved in this stage). (b1) During introduction, the holder is moved axially; (c) On completion of filling, the mixture is converted to foam and (d) the holder, and if appropriate, the outer casing tube, is/are removed.
