Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forming a surface relief microstructure, especially an optically variable image on a paper substrate are provided, the method comprising the steps of: A) applying a curable composition to at least a portion of the frontside of the paper substrate; B) contacting at least a portion of the curable composition with surface relief microstructure, especially optically variable image forming means; C) curing the composition by using at least one UV lamp (1, 2, 3) which is arranged on the backside of the paper substrate; D) optionally depositing a layer of a transparent high refractive index material and/or a metallic layer on at least a portion of the cured composition, wherein the lamp (1, 2, 3) having emission peak(s) in the UV-A and near VIS range and the curable composition comprises at least a photoinitiator which absorbs in the UV-A region and preferably in the near VIS range. A paper product obtainable uses the method and an apparatus for forming a surface relief microstructure on a paper substrate. Surface relief microstructures, such as holograms may be replicated rapidly and with accuracy on a paper substrate by using the method and the apparatus.

Abstract: La presente invención se refiere a un método para formar una microestructura en relieve de superficie, especialmente una imagen ópticamente variable (un dispositivo ópticamente variable) sobre un substrato de papel que comprende los pasos de: A) aplicar una composición curable (barniz) a por lo menos una porción del lado frontal del sustrato de papel; B) poner en contacto por lo menos una porción de la composición curable con microestructura en relieve de superficie, especialmente medios de formación de imagen ópticamente variable; C) curar la composición mediante el uso de por lo menos una lámpara de UV que está dispuesta en el lado posterior del sustrato de papel; D) opcionalmente depositar una capa de un material de alto índice de refracción transparente y/o una capa- metálica en por lo menos una porción de la composición curada, en donde la lámpara que tiene pico(s) de emisión en el intervalo de UV-A y preferiblemente cerca del intervalo de VIS y la composición curable comprende por lo menos un fotoiniciador que se absorbe en la región UV-A y preferiblemente además en el intervalo de VIS cercano, un producto de papel obtenible usando el método y un aparato para formar una microestructura en relieve de superficie sobre un sustrato de papel. Las microestructuras en relieve de superficie, tales como hologramas, se pueden replicar rápidamente y con exactitud en un sustrato de papel usando el método y aparato de la presente invención.
