A process for preparing etherified melamine-formaldehyde condensates, in which a methylolation of melamine is first performed with a formaldehyde component in a molar ratio of 1:6 to 1:15, preferably at a pH of > 7. This is followed by an etherification of the resulting hydroxymethylation intermediate in the presence of a C1-C20-alcohol, preferably of a C1-C6-alcohol, more preferably of a C1-C4-alcohol, at a pH of 9.5 is established before, during and/or after the distillation. According to the invention, this is followed by several hydroxymethylation, etherification and distillation steps, in order to achieve an etherified melamine-formaldehyde condensate which features a high degree of hydroxymethylation, a high solids content and a low viscosity.

The invention relates to an aqueous melamine resin mixture with a resin content in the range of 50 to 70 wt. %, based on the aqueous melamine resin mixture, with melamine and formaldehyde present in the resin in a molar ratio of 1:3 to 1:1 and the resin contains 1 to 10 wt. % polyvalent alcohols, 0 to 8 wt. % caprolactam and 0.5 to 10 wt. % 2-(2-phenoxyethoxy)-ethanol and/or polyethylene glycol with an average molecular mass of 200 to 1500 each based on the aqueous melamine resin mixture. The invention further relates to a method for production of said melamine resin mixtures and use thereof for the impregnation of absorbent support materials and a composite material made from the melamine resin mixture and the support material.

The invention relates to an aqueous impregnating resin solution containing (A) between 77.5 and 99.8 wt. %, in relation to the impregnating resin solution, of aqueous condensates based on melamine and formaldehyde; (B) between 0.1 and 20 wt. %, in relation to the impregnating resin solution, of at least one specific quaternary ammonium compound; and (C) between 0.1 and 2.5 wt. %, in relation to the impregnating resin solution, of an aqueous hardener solution. The invention also relates to an aqueous impregnating resin solution consisting of constituents (A) and (B), and to an aqueous hardener mixture consisting of constituents (B) and (C). The invention further relates to an impregnating resin film containing fibrous substances containing cellulose and impregnated with the aqueous impregnating resin solution, and to the use of the aqueous impregnating resin solution, or impregnating resin film, for the antistatic finishing of coated materials.
