Abstract: The present invention provides an infusion pump having a main body portion. The main body portion includes a display area for displaying user interface information. At least one pump module is provided which is removably secured to the main body portion and adapted to receive an IV tube. The pump module includes means for applying pumping action to the IV tube. A microprocessor is contained in the main body portion for generating user interface information on the display area. The infusion pump also comprises means for entering values relating to a beneficial agent to be infused into a patient and means for calculating an infusion profile for this agent. Included in the user interface information is a graphical representation of the calculated infusion profile.

At least one pump module 16 is provided which is removably secured to the main body portion and adapted to receive an IV tube. The pump module includes means for applying pumping action to the IV tube. A microprocessor is contained in the main body portion for generating user interface information on the display area. The infusion pump also comprises a battery which provides electrical power to the microprocessor, the display and the pump module and is further provided with means for determining the charge of the battery. Included in the user interface information is a graphical representation 124 of the charge of the battery.

It has been found that periodic sampling of the battery voltage and current drain enables accurate battery monitoring. The sampling technique alternates between sampling battery voltage and sampling current drain. An electric circuit is provided which enables the cost-effective sampling to occur. A method is then applied to the sampling signals by a microprocessor which determines the amount of time left under battery power. In a preferred embodiment, a graphic representation is provided of the amount of battery time left.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system for automatically reconstituting a drug in-line and delivering the drug to a patient. Pursuant to the present invention, a system is provided that allows fluid entry into a vial, that houses the drug to be reconstituted, with concurrent air elimination. Mixing via different fluid entry levels is provided. Due to the unique fluid flow path of the present invention reconstitution of the drug is ensured. The system, method, and apparatus of the present invention can be utilized with a computer controlled pump. When so utilized, a completely automated procedure can be achieved.
