Abstract: An intravenous metering device (10) is provided which includes an air retention chamber (40) in downstream fluid communication with a source of fluid (14) and in upstream fluid communication with a pumping chamber (20). A first valve (38) is provided between the air retention chamber (40) and the pumping chamber (20) to control access to the pumping chamber (20). A second valve (100) is provided to control the exit of fluid from the pumping chamber (20). The valves include a shared diaphragm portion (22).

Abstract: The present invention provides a system for automatically reconstituting a drug in-line and delivering the drug to a patient. Pursuant to the present invention, a system is provided that allows fluid entry into a vial, that houses the drug to be reconstituted, with concurrent air elimination. Mixing via different fluid entry levels is provided. Due to the unique fluid flow path of the present invention reconstitution of the drug is ensured. The system, method, and apparatus of the present invention can be utilized with a computer controlled pump. When so utilized, a completely automated procedure can be achieved.

Abstract: An intravenous metering device includes a pumping chamber (20) variable in volume by a diaphragm (22) and having an outlet pipe (98) controlled by a diaphragm valve (38) which remains closed until deflected away from the pipe (98) by pressure generated in the pumping chamber (20). The diaphragm (22, 28) and a diaphragm inlet valve (28, Fig 3, not shown) are integral parts of a single sheet of flexible material. An air retention chamber is disposed upstream of the inlet valve. A one-way flap valve also of the flexible sheet is located downstream of the outlet valve (38). A stem (110) extending from the outlet valve diaphragm can be manually lifted to open the outlet valve and enable the device to be primed.
