    Abstract: Foamed articles having a compact outer skin and a cellular core and integral density distributing across article cross-section, are prepd. by forming a reaction mixt. contg. polyisocyanates, polyhydroxyl cpds. and blowing agents, opt. mixed with further isocyanate-reacting cpds. activators and further auxiliaries, in a closed mould. Novelty comprises using polyisocyanate mixts. of polyisocyanates (I) contg. aromatically bonded NCO gps. with polisocyanates (II) contg. aliphatically or cycloaliphatically bonded NCO gps., in mol. ratio (I):(II) 95:5 to 50:50 (esp. 95:5 to 80:20). Rigid foams can be used for furniture and car-body parts, technical instruments and building units. Semirigid to soft foams can be used for safety-upholstery in cars, flexible shoe-soles and bumpers. The addn. of 5-50 (5-20) mol. % (II) to (I) prevents yellowing and improves gloss retention after weathering, yielding polyurethane foams suitable for outdoor use.

    Abstract: A process for preparing foamed bodies with self releasing characteristics is claimed consisting of a reaction mixt. of polyisocyanate, cpds. with reactive H atoms with mol. wt. 62-10,000, water and/or organic blowing agents and opt. other additives, uses as release agent a salt prepd. from a sat. or unsat. aliphatic or cycloaliphatic >=8C carboxylic acid and tert. amine having an atomic ratio of tert. amino N:C in molecule of 1:3-12. The release agent is esp. useful in foaming moulds, makes external release agents unnecessary, and no cleaning of the mould is reqd. after only a few prodn. cycles.     Abstract: 1365015 Moulded foam resins BAYER AG 5 Oct 1972 [5 Oct 1971] 45886/72 Heading C3R Moulded foam resins are prepared by introducing a foamable rection mixture into a mould, the internal walls of which are kept at least 20‹ C. below the maximum reaction temperature of the foaming reaction mixture, and allowing the mixture to foam up, the mixture comprising (a) a blowing agent, (b) a polyisocyanate, (c) a polyether having a M.W. up to 4,000, (d) 30 to 100% by weight, based on the weight of (c) of a polyepoxide and optionally (e) a compound which contains at least two active hydrogen atoms in which case the weight of (d) is based on the weight of (c) and (e) . The foams preferably have a compact surface and cellular core and are suitably prepared in a closed mould by introducing into the mould more mixture than would be necessary to fill the mould with expanded foam if the mixture were left to expand freely. In a typical example a component A comprising a mixture of a polyether prepared by addition of propylene oxide and ethylene oxide to propylene glycol, butane- 1,4-diol, monofluorotrichloromethane, a silicone stabilizer and N-methyl-N 1 -(#-dimethylaminoethyl) piperazine is mixed with a component B comprising an isocyanate based on diphenylmethane-4,4 1 -diisocyanate and a diepoxide which is a mixture of dihydroxydiphenylpropane/ epichlorohydrin and aniline / epichlorohydrin reaction products and the resulting mixture foamed in a closed metal mould. The foams have a high impact strength.

    Abstract: Novel aromatic diamines having the general formula WHEREIN N IS AN INTEGER OF FROM 2 TO 8, X is sulfur or oxygen, and R is an n-valent hydrocarbon radical which may be interrupted by O or S atoms and which is obtained by removing OH or SH groups from a polyol or polythiol having a molecular weight of less than 600, are prepared by reacting a compound having the formula (HX)nR where X, n and R are as defined above with about n-equivalents of an isatoic acid anhydride in the presence of a strong base. The aromatic diamines of the invention are particularly useful as the active hydrogen containing component for reaction with polyisocyanates in the preparation of synthetic resins by the isocyanate-polyaddition process.

    Abstract: 1303787 Amino-terminated polyethers; polyurethanes BAYER AG 22 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 10724/71 Heading C3R Novel compounds of the formula wherein n denotes an integer of from 2 to 8, X denotes O or S, and R denotes an n-valent radical obtained by the removal of hydroxyl or mercapto groups from an n-valent polyalkylene ether polyol or a polyalkylene thioether polythiol, are prepared by reacting compounds of the formula (HX) n R having a molecular weight of from 600 to 10,000 with at least n equivalents of isatoic acid anhydride in the presence of a strong base. The products may be converted to polyurethane resins by reaction with polyisocyanates and optional chain-extending agents. Specified polythiol or polyol reactants include polytetrahydrofuran, polypropylene glycol, polypropylene oxides capped with ethylene oxide units, bifunctional polyethers obtained by successive propoxylation and ethoxylation of aniline or beta, beta 1 -dihydroxy-N-ethyl-diethylamine, ethoxylated trimethylol propane, propoxylated beta, beta 1 -dihydroxy-N-stearoyldiethylamine, a polyether glycol of M.W. 1400 having 30% hexane diol and 70% thiodiglycol units, and tri- and tetra-functional polyethers obtained by successive propoxylation and ethoxylation of glycerol and ethylene diamine, respectively. Polyurethane resins are obtained from the novel amino-terminated esters of these compounds by reaction with tolylene diisocyanate and subsequent chain extension with 1,4- dichloro-3,5-diaminobenzene. Foamed polyurethanes are prepared by reaction with tolylene diisocyanate, 4,4 1 - diisocyanato - diphenylmethane partly converted to a carbodiimide derivative and an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer derived from tolylene diisocyanate and a polyether based on dipropylene glycol and propylene oxide having an OH-number of 148, other ingredients present being silicone stabilizers, water and monofluorotrichloromethane foaming agents, isobutyl 4-chloro-3,5-diaminobenzoate chain extending agent, and stannous 2 - ethylhexoate, N - methyl - N 1 - (N,N - dimethylaminoethyl)-piperazine and a combination of 2,2,4 - trimethyl - 2 - sila - morpholine, N - methyl - N 1 - (N,N - dimethylaminoethyl)- piperazine and beta, beta 1 -dihydroxy-diethylamine as catalysts. Uses.-Improved polyurethanes.

    Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a process for the production of weather-resistant rigid molded foams based on polyurethanes having a dimensional stability under heat according to DIN 53 432 of at least 70 DEG C. and a compact surface, a cellular core and an integral density distribution throughout the cross-section of the moldings, comprising foaming a foamable reaction mixture of polyisocyanates, polyhydroxyl compounds, blowing agents and, optionally, other isocyanate-reactive compounds, activators and other auxiliaries in a closed mold under the conditions of in-mold foaming, the improvement wherein the polyisocyanates used are reaction products containing isocyanate groups and urethane groups, said reaction products formed by reacting diisocyanates containing at least one cycloaliphatically bound isocyanate group and no more than one aliphatically bound isocyanate group with sub-stoichiometric quantities of organic polyhydroxyl compounds.
