Abstract: Parts 6 of the exposed surfaces of the helically extending outer wires 4 of a strand 1 (e.g. for use as a roof bolt) are upset by indentations extending in a substantially non-axial direction to enhance keying to an anchoring medium and to resist the tendency of the strand 1 to screw out of the anchoring medium, in use. The outer wires may have external surfaces which lie on a circumscribing circle. The indentations are rolled into the outer wires. A screwthreaded ferrule may be pressed or swaged onto the outer end of the strand 1, or the female may be of polygonal cross-section so that torque may be applied a strand-tightening direction. The inner end of the strand may be pointed.
