Abstract: A thread-wound golf ball comprises a thread-wound core (3) and a cover (4), the cover (4) being formed of a vulcanized rubber composition comprising a base rubber comprising at least 30% by weight of transpolyisoprene, and having a vulcanizing sulfur content ratio between radially outer and inner regions thereof of from 1:2 to 4:1. Sufficient vulcanizing sulfur is available throughout the cover (4) to render the cover resistant to cut and shear so that the ball is durable.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase flight distance by blending titanium white and barium sulfate with a cover material mainly composed of an ionomer resin for a cover to obtain a specified specific gravity. CONSTITUTION:In a golf ball wherein a core is covered, a cover material composed mainly of an ionomer resin and adjusted in specific gravity by using titanium white (specific gravity 4.3) and barium sulfate (specific gravity 4.47) as an inorganic white filler is used. A blending ratio of the titanium white to the barium sulfate is desirable 20%, or more of titanium white to total volume of both the fillers in view of retaining a degree of white color A filling quantity of the titanium white and barium sulfate filler into the cover is 7-25 parts by weight within the specific gravity range of 1.01-1.15 as a cover material in combination of both to the ionomer resin 100 parts by weight. When the specific graity is 1.01 or less, effect of increasing moment of inertia is little and therefore improvement effect in flight distance of golf ball is little. When it is 1.15 or more, hitting resistance, cutting resistance and durability required for the cover material are lowered and impact resilience is reduced.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a hard golf ball having a high physical property by uniformly mixing metallic salt of alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxilic acid through solution master batch into rubber-like polymer. CONSTITUTION:Polymer cement is producedin proper aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent. Suspension is formed in the hydrocarbon solvent miscible with hydrocarbon solvent of metallic salt of alpha,beta-ethylenically unsaturated carboxilic acid. The polymer cement is mixed with the suspension to remove the solvent and provide the metallic salt uniformly dispersed in the polymer. Then, a hard golf ball is produced from these materials.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve both flying performance of a golf ball and the feeling of a player when the player hits the ball by setting the hardness of the surface of the core and that of the 4-mm inside portion of the surface of the core at more than a predetermined value, and making the hardness of the 2-mm inside portion of the surface of the core smaller than those of the surface of the core and the 4-mm inside portion by more than a specific value. CONSTITUTION:When the hardness of a core is measured by a JIS-C type hardness meter, the hardness of a portion inside of the surface of the core by 2mm is softer by 2 deg. than those of the surface of the core and a portion inside of the surface of the core by 4mm, and also the hardness of the surface of the core and that of the portion inside of the surface of the core by 4mm are both more than 78 deg.. When the hardness is lower than 78 deg., the durability of the ball is deteriorated, so the hardness of a cover provided over the surface of the core is preferably more than 90 deg..

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase the hardness of a roll and to reduce the impact noise of printing by forming a rubber cylinder composed of a rubber composition containing a reinforced rubber composition mixed with a thermoplastic polymer integrally over a metallic core. CONSTITUTION:A rubber cylinder to be formed integrally over a metallic or resin core is composed of a reinforced rubber composition composed of natural rubber or polyisoprene rubber and vulcanizable rubber mixed with short fibers of thermoplastic polymer. Short micro fibers of nylon 6, polyurethane, etc. are suitable as said short fibers of thermoplastic polymer and burried in a vulcanizable rubber in the form of short fibers with molecules being arranged in the axial direction of fibers. The thermoplastic short fibers are mixed by 2-30wt% for 100wt% of the entire rubber component of rubber composition.
