The present invention relates to a modified colored pigment comprising a colored pigment having an attached organic group. The organic group is attached to the colored pigment via at least one carbon atom of a C-C single bond or double bond, wherein the C-C single bond or double bond is not a component of an aromatic system. The organic group further comprises at least one activating group on at least one carbon atom of the C-C single bond or double bond. A method of preparing a modified colored pigment is also disclosed, as are aqueous and non-aqueous dispersions, e.g., including ink jet inks, comprising the modified colored pigments.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to modified pigments products comprising a pigment having attached at least one organic group represented by the formula X-Sp-Alk, wherein X, which is directly attached to the pigment, represents an arylene, heteroarylene, or alkylene group, Sp represents a spacer group, and Alk represents an alkenyl or alkyl group containing 50-200 carbon atoms. The use of these modified pigment products in non-aqueous dispersion compositions and in several applications, including printing plates, electrophoretic displays, liquid crystal displays, and ink, coating, toner, and polymer compositions is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed are elastomeric compounds including an elastomer and a silicon-treated carbon black, and optionally including a coupling agent. The elastomeric compound exhibits poorer abrasion resistance in the absence of a coupling agent, lower hysteresis at high temperature and comparable or increased hysteresis at low temperature compared to an elastomer containing an untreated carbon black. A variety of elastomers and formulations employing such elastomers are contemplated and disclosed. Elastomeric compounds incorporating an elastomer and an oxidized, silicon-treated carbon black are also disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for preparing elastomers compounded with the treated carbon black.
