A marine lubricating oil has a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity; and a minor amount of an overbased, alkyl oxy benzene sulfonate having a TBN of at least 200. Between 40 wt.% and 80 wt.% of the alkyl group is attached at the 4-position and higher positions of the alkyl group. The oxy group can be hydroxy, methoxy, ethoxy, propoxy, butoxy, pentoxy, or hexoxy.

A continuous process for the aminolysis of polymers produced from ethylenically unsaturated structural units comprising contacting, in a reaction vessel, (a) a molten polymer containing structural units produced from alpha-olefins having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms, and esters of alpha , beta -ethylenically-unsaturated carboxylic acids in a reaction vessel; and (b) a liquid phase comprising an amine-containing compound, e.g., an alkylamine having an alkyl group containing 1-30 carbon atoms, ammonia, or derivatives thereof, in the presence of (c) a catalytically effective amount of a catalyst, which is preferably a metal-containing solution, for a period of time effective to produce a polymer containing acrylamide structural units, wherein the period of time is less than about 1 hour. This process is performed continuously in a reaction vessel, preferably in at least one reactive extruder, under conditions effective to provide an ethylene co-polymer containing acrylamide structural units.

An improved hydrocarbon conversion process, comprising applying a plating, cladding, paint or other coating to at least a portion of a hydrocarbon conversion reactor system which is used to convert hydrocarbons to products in the presence of steam, said coating being effective to reduce the amount of undesirable by-products in said process; and operating the hydrocarbon conversion process at a steam to hydrocarbon ratio that is lower than the steam to hydrocarbon ratio at which said process was operated prior to applying said coating. Preferred hydrocarbon conversion process includes steam cracking of hydrocarbons to produce ethylene and dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene.

Provided is a process for aromatizing a wide boiling range naphtha feed in order to produce a C8 stream with its C8 aromatics rich in xylene, e.g., preferably containing at least 80 wt.% xylene. The process comprises aromatizing the naphtha feed over a high temperature treated L-zeolite catalyst in the potassium form containing a Group VIII metal, preferably platinum. The high temperature treated catalyst has also been preferably treated at a temperature in the range of from 1025 DEG F to 1275 DEG F while maintaining the water level of the effluent gas below 200 ppmv. A C8 stream with its C8 aromatics being rich in xylene is then recovered from the product stream.

Provied is a process for regenerating a high temperature treated reforming catalyst which has been deactivated due to coke deposition and which catalyst comprises at least one Group VIII metal. The process comprises first burning coke from the catalyst by contacting the catalyst with an oxygen containing gas. The catalyst is then reduced by contacting the catalyst with a reducing gas, preferably hydrogen. The catalyst is then treated at a temperature in the range of from 975 DEG to less than 1150 DEG F. This last treatment step can take place in either a reducing atmosphere, or in an inert gaseous atmosphere. It is also preferred that the last step be conducted while maintaining the water level of the effluent gas below 200 ppmv.
