Abstract: 1. UN PROCESO PARA DETECTAR UNA CONDICION EN UN SUJETO, LA CUAL CONDICION INCLUYE UN CAMBIO SINTO- MATICO DETECTABLE EN LA COLORACION DEL SUJETO; PROCESO QUE COMPRENDE LOS PASOS DE: (a) EN UN PRIMER PUNTO A LA VEZ, MEDIR CON UN INSTRUMENTO DE MEDICION DEL COLOR EL CALOR DE UN FACTOR DE COLOR EN EL COLOR DEL SUJETO, SIENDO DI- CHO FACTOR DE COLOR DEPENDIENTE DEL CONTENIDO DE DICHA COLORACION EN EL COLOR DEL SUJETO. (b) MEDIR CON EL INSTRUMENTO DE MEDICION DEL CO- LOR, POR LO MENOS EN UN PUNTO ADICIONAL A LA VEZ, EL VALOR DE DICHO FACTOR DE COLOR EN EL COLOR DEL SUJETO, Y (c) COMPARAR LOS VALORES DEL FACTOR DETERMINADO EN DICHO PRIMER PUNTO Y PUNTOS ADICIONALES A LA VEZ PARA DETERMINAR SI SE HA DEMOSTRADO UN CAMBIO EN EL DE UNA MAGNITUD PREDETERMINADA QUE EVIDENCIE DICHA CONDICION MEDICA. 12. EL PROCESO DE ACUERDO CON LA REIVINDICACION 1 QUE COMPRENDE ADEMAS EL PASO DE: (d) ESTABLECER UNA PLURALIDAD DE CLASES DE COLO- RACION EN LAS CUALES UN CAMBIO QUE DIFIERA EN EL VALOR DE DICHO FACTOR DEL COLOR ES INDICATIVO DE LA CONDICION. 35. APARATO PARA MEDIR UNA COLORACION DE LA PIEL INDICATIVA DE UNA CONDICION MEDICA, APARATO QUE INCLUYE UN MEDIO PARA RECIBIR LA LUZ REFLEJADA DE UN SUJETO, UN MEDIO PARA DERIVAR DE LA LUZ REFLE- JADA POR LO MENOS FACTORES DEL COLOR PRIMEROS Y SEGUNDOS, UN MEDIO QUE ESTABLEZCA RANGOS MULTIPLES DE COLORACION BASADOS EN POR LO MENOS LOS PRIMEROS Y SEGUNDOS FACTORES DEL COLOR Y UN MEDIO PARA DE- TECTAR CUANDO EL VALOR DEL PRIMER FACTOR DEL COLOR ESTA POR FUERA DE UN RANGO PARA UNA COLORACION QUE TENGA UN VALOR MEDIDO DEL SEGUNDO FACTOR DEL CO- LOR, POR EL CUAL SE INDICA LA CONDICION MEDICA CO- MO UNA POSIBLE CAUSA DEL VALOR FUERA DE RANGO DEL PRIMER FACTOR DEL COLOR. Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the condition of a test subject based on color uses a color measuring instrument to detect change in a color factor indicative of a condition such as a disease, spoilage, ageing, etc. A medical condition such as hyperbilirubinemia that affects skin color can be detected. One measures color factors such as Hunter b and L in the subjects' skin color. For predetermined ranges of one color factor, in particular L, changes in the other color factor, e.g. Hunter b, above predetermined levels are indicative of the medical condition. In many cases, a single measurement of the color factors can be utilized as a warning of the likelyhood of the medical or contaminated condition, if the ordinary range of the color factor is known for healthy individuals with skin coloration like that of the test subject. Even if there has been no baseline measurement and the test subject's color is such that a single reading of one or two color factors will not warn of the possible presence of the medical condition or contamination, sequential readings can indicate the presence or absence of the condition based upon changes in the measured color factor, or lack of changes. The color measuring techniques apply to a wide range of biological test subjects (e.g. hair, teeth, tissue, excretions, foods, soil, animals, plants).
