Abstract: In a continuous casting installation for steel having an electromagnetic stirrer, thrust forces are produced with the aid of a traveling magnetic field for generating a turbulent flow in the liquid core of the cast strand or casting. These thrust forces are affected by the asymmetry prevailing in the phases of the traveling magnetic field. The weaker thrust force of the traveling magnetic field is effective at the liquid core prior to the effect of the stronger thrust force.
