    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a dialkyl carbonate in high conversion and selectivity by reacting alcohols with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of an oxidative carbonylation catalyst and removing water from a reactor using pervaporation membrane. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyl carbonate is produced by (1) using a pervaporation membrane as a method for reacting alcohols with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of an oxidative carbonylation catalyst and then selectively removing water which is produced simultaneously with a dialkyl carbonate or by (2) separating dimethyl carbonate from water using the pervaporation membrane and then continuously removing water produced during reaction, in a reaction system for continuously feeding alcohols, carbon monoxide and oxygen to the reactor and continuously pulling out the produced dimethyl carbonate and water from the reactor. The producing method is high in, both of conversion and selectivity.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst of ester exchange reaction which is useful for manufacturing an aromatic carbonic acid diester by ester exchange reaction of a carbonic acid diester and a phenolic compound, and manufacturing method of the aromatic carbonic acid diester using the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for ester exchange reaction prepared from at least a dialkyltin is used. Ester exchange reaction of an alkylcarbonic acid diester and a phenolic compound is carried out in the presence of the catalyst for ester exchange reaction to obtain an aromatic carbonic acid diester. Consequently, the catalyst for ester exchange reaction in the mentioned reaction has high catalytic activity and the aromatic carbonic acid dimethyl ester is obtained efficiently. Also, a side reaction can be controlled.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compounds by effecting the reaction of methanol, methyl acetate or dimethyl ether and carbon monoxide or a combination thereof with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst in a series of facilities. CONSTITUTION:A rhodium compound and methyl iodide are used as major catalysts to effect the reaction of methyl acetate or dimethyl ether and carbon monoxide or a combination thereof with hydrogen in the first reactor to give acetic anhydride. After most of the catalyst are removed from the reaction mixture, at least a part of the acetic anhydride formed in the first reactor is allowed to react with methanol and/or water in the second reactor to form acetic acid and methyl acetate or acetic acid. The methyl acetate included in the reaction mixture from the second reactor is recycled to the first reactor as a feedstock whereby the production ratio of acetic acid to acetic anhydride can be freely changed. Acetic acid is useful as a starting substance for acetate, acetic anhydride, vinyl acetate and production of terephthalic acid. Acetic anhydride is useful as a starting substance for cellulose acetate, medicines, perfumes, dyes and the like.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a solid catalyst for production of a carbonic acid ester, having high activity, long catalytic life and high corrosion resistance. CONSTITUTION:Copper (I) halide such as copper (I) chloride or a copper (I) halide and an organic compound capable of coordinating with the copper (I) halide are treated in the presence of carbon monoxide in an organic solvent such as methanol and carried on a support. As the organic compound, a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound, an organophosphorus compound, nitrile, etc., is used. As the support, active carbon, etc., is used. The above- mentioned treatment is carried out at ordinary pressure to about 100kg/cm and at a temperature of about 20-200 deg.C. The catalyst component is uniformly carried on the support because the treatment is carried out in the presence of carbon monoxide gas. This catalyst is preferably used for producing a carbonic acid ester such as dimethyl carbonate, etc., by reacting an alcohol with carbon monoxide in the presence of oxygen.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a carbonic acid ester in high efficiency by carrying out the ester interchange of dimethyl carbonate with a hydroxy compound and distilling out the by-produced methanol by using the dimethyl carbonate raw material as an azeotropic agent. CONSTITUTION:A carbonic acid ester is produced by the ester interchange of dimethyl carbonate with a hydroxy compound (e.g. phenol) in a reactive distillation column 4 in the presence of an ester interchange reaction catalyst (e.g. dibutyltin oxide). In the above process, the methanol produced in the reaction zone at the lower part of the reactive distillation column 4 is mixed with dimethyl carbonate in the reactive distillation zone to form an azeotropic mixture, transferred from the column top through a line 5 and condensed by a condenser 6. The distillate from a line 8 consisting of an azeotropic mixture of dimethyl carbonate, and methanol is separated and purified by a permeating evaporation membrane 9 and the methanol is recovered from the line 10. The dimethyl carbonate is recovered from the line 2 and returned to the reactive distillation column 4 through the line 1. Methanol can be removed in high efficiency by this process to enable the effective progress of the reaction in a short time and the production of a carbonic acid ester at a low cost.
