Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a process for the industrial mass-production of a carbonic acid ester as a bulk chemical from an alcohol, carbon monoxide and oxygen while suppressing the by-production of oxalic acid ester to prevent the lowering of the catalytic activity and enable the use of a continuous reactional process. CONSTITUTION:A carbonic acid ester industrially useful as a polymer raw material, etc., is produced by reacting an alcohol with carbon monoxide and oxygen. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (a) a platinum-group compound, especially a Pd salt, (b) a weak acid salt and/or halide of copper and (c) a weak acid salt and/or halide of an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal under a CO partial pressure of . The by-production of oxalic acid ester is suppressed, the lowering of the catalytic activity by the formation of scarcely soluble copper oxalate is prevented and the load on catalyst regeneration step is lowered by this process. The lowering of the CO partial pressure is effective for reducing the concentration of combustible raw gas component and enabling the adoption of a continuous reactional process to continuously extract the reactional liquid while continuously charging the raw material liquid into the reactional system.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To effectively remove an iodine compound contained in the subject reactional product by heat-treating crude acetic anhydride or a crude acetic acid mixture which is a product of the carbonylating reaction using an Rh compound catalyst-methyl iodide cocatalyst. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyl ether, methyl acetate, a mixture of the dimethyl ether/ methanol or a mixture of methyl acetate/methanol is allowed to react with carbon monoxide or the carbon monoxide and hydrogen by using a rhodium compound as a catalyst and methyl iodide as a cocatalyst. The resultant crude acetic anhydride or a mixture of the crude acetic anhydride/crude acetic acid is heat-treated in the presence of methanol and/or methyl acetate in a treating vessel or a distillation column by keeping >=5min residence time to convert an iodine compound contained in the crude acetic anhydride or the mixture of the crude acetic anhydride/crude acetic acid into low-boiling methyl iodide separable by distillation. Thereby, the iodine compound is effectively removed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To markedly increase a reaction rate in the presence of a small amount of an auxiliary catalyst by employing a beryllium compound as the cocatalyst, when methyl acetate is reacted with CO in the presence of a rhodium compound and methyl iodine as main catalysts. CONSTITUTION:Methyl acetate or dimethyl ether is reacted with carbon monoxide in the presence of a rhodium compound (e.g. rhodium iodide) and methyl iodine as main catalysts and further in the presence of a beryllium compound (e.g. beryllium hydroxide) as a cocadtalyst preferably in a ratio of 0.5-50 moles per mole of the rhodium compound to produce acetic anhydride. The reaction is preferably continuously performed in acetic anhydride and/or acetic acid as reaction solvents at a reaction temperature of 150-250 deg.C under a pressure of 20-150atm.

CONSTITUTION:An alcohol is reacted with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a copper catalyst such as a cuprous halide under about 1-100 atom at about 80-200 deg.C. When a halide of a metal with the orbit d of groups 4 to 7 of the periodic table is added to the reactional system, a copper catalyst will not precipitate so that a high catalytic activity is shown with a small amount. Chloride of titanium, tin, niobium, bismuth, molybdenum or manganese is used as the halide of the metal.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound in high yield and selectivity with excellent stability under relatively mild conditions in a short time by reacting an aldehyde with formaldehyde by using a primary or a secondary amine salt having a buffering ability as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An aldehyde (e.g. propionaldehyde) expressed by the formula (R1 is H, 1-10C alkyl or aryl) is reacted with formaldehyde under conditions of 20-150 deg.C and 0.1-50atm within the range of pH2.5-12.0 by using a primary or a secondary amine salt such as oxalic acid amine salt obtained from, e.g. oxalic acid dihydrate, diethanolamine and water as a catalyst in an amount of 0.01-10.0 equiv. based on 1mol aldehyde expressed by the formula to afford an alpha-alkylacrolein (e.g. methacrolein). A salt of a primary or a secondary amine with an organic or an inorganic acid having a relatively weak acidity is representative of the buffer substance that is the catalyst. Boric acid, a carbonic acid derivative, etc., can be used and the catalyst is economical and entirely new without any problems in environment.

CONSTITUTION:This carbonylation reaction method is carried out by reacting carbon monoxide with one of methanol, methyl acetate and dimethyl ether or a mixture of two or more kinds of substances selected therefrom in the presence of a rhodium catalyst, methyl iodide and an iodide salt, continuously discharging the reaction solution from the reactor and introducing it into a flush zone to separate a vaporized fraction from an unevaporated fraction. In this carbonylation reaction method, an after-reactor of 7 to 60sec residence time is set between the reactor and the flush zone and carbon monoxide remaining in the reaction solution is reacted at 150 to 220 deg.C.
