    Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain a polycarbonate having high molecular weight, free from coloration, having excellent transparency and suitable for injection molding, etc., by polycondensing a dihydric hydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate in the presence of a catalyst in a reactor consisting of a specific material. CONSTITUTION:A dihydric hydroxy compound such as 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane is polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate such as diphenyl carbonate in the presence of a transesterification catalyst consisting of an electron donative amine compound such as N,N-dimethyl-4-aminopyridine or the electron donative amine compound and alkali (earth) metal compound in a reactor using a material whose Ni and/or Mo content is >=60% in quantitative relationship of the composition constituted as the material to provide the objective polycarbonate.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polycarbonate having faint color and useful for injection molding at a low cost by carrying out the melt polycondensation of a bivalent hydroxy compound and a bisaryl carbonate in a reactor plated at the liquid- contacting part. CONSTITUTION:A polycarbonate is produced by the ester-interchange melt- polycondensation of a bivalent hydroxy compound (e.g. bisphenol A) and a bisaryl carbonate in the presence of an ester interchange catalyst (e.g. lithium borohydride). The reactor used in the above reaction has a liquid-contacting part plated with Cr or Ni or the reactor is made of a stainless steel and has a liquid-contacting part subjected to electrolytic polishing.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a polycarbonate having a high molecular weight and improved colorlessness, transparency and production efficiency by melt- polycondensing a dihydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate by transesterification in four specified steps. CONSTITUTION:In step 1, a monomer mixture comprising a dihydroxy compound (A) and a bisaryl carbonate (B) is molten in a tank for melting feeds. In step 2, this mixture is polymerized on a horizontal twin-screw polymerizer to obtain a polycarbonate prepolymer of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 5000-30000. In step 3, the obtained prepolymer is received in at least one hold tank. In step 4, it is reacted on at least one paddle-type self-cleaning extruder to melt-polycondense components A and B by transesterification and to thereby obtain a polycarbonate of a viscosity-average molecular weight of 12000-60000.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a lowly colored high-molecular weight polycarbonate by melt-polycondensing a dihydroxy compound with a bisaryl carbonate in a stainless steel reactor having a pickled liquid-contacting part. CONSTITUTION:A stainless steel reactor is charged with hydrochloric acid of a concentration of 40-45wt.% or an aqueous nitric acid solution of a concentration of 5-15wt.%, brushed at room temperature to 50 deg.C, washed with water and dried. A dihydroxy compound of any one of formulas I-IV (wherein R1 to R5 are each H, 1-8 C linear or branched alkyl, or phenyl; X is halogen, (n) is 0-4; and (m) is 1-4) is melt-polycondensed with a bisaryl carbonate at 100-300 deg.C in the presence of a transesterification catalyst (e.g. lithium borohydride) in the reactor.

CONSTITUTION:A bisphenol [e.g. a compound of formula I, II, III or IV (wherein R1 to R4 are each H, 1-8 C alkyl or phenyl; X is halogen; (n) = 0-4; and (m) = 1-4)] is melt-polycondensed with biphenyl carbonate in the presence of an electron-donating amine compound (e.g. 2-methylimidazole) catalyst and an alkali metal compound (e.g. sodium acetate) or an alkaline earth metal compound (e.g. calcium carbonate). In this way, a high-molecular weight, substantially chloride ion-free, colorless transparent polycarbonate can be obtained without using any toxic phosgene.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a colorless, transparent, high-mol. wt. polycarbonate substantially free from chlorine ion without using toxic phosgene by reacting a dialkyl carbonate with an arom. dihydroxy compd. in the presence of a specific transesterification catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A dialkyl carbonate is reacted with an arom. dihydroxy compd. in the presence of a transesterification catalyst comprising SbR1R2R3 or Sb2Xm (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are each alkyl, phenyl, alkoxy, or phenoxy; X is O or S; and m is 3 or 5). The dialkyl carbonate pref. releases a low-boilng alkyl group when forming a carbonate bond, and pref. if dimethyl carbonate obtd. from methanol, a cheap raw material. As the arom. dihydroxy compd., a compd. of formula I, II, III, or IV (wherein R1, R2, R3, and R4 are each H, 1-8C linear or branched alkyl, or phenyl; X is halogen; n is 0-4) is pref. A pref. transesterification catalyst is Sb2O3.
