    Abstract: PURPOSE:To efficiently produce a colorless high-mol.-wt. polycarbonate by cooling, in an inert gas flow, a high-mol.-wt. polycarbonate melt obtd. by a specific melt polycondensation method. CONSTITUTION:A dihydroxy compd. [e.g. a compd. of formula I, II, III, or IV (wherein R1 to R4 are each H, 1-8C alkyl, or phenyl; X is halogen; n is 0-4; and m is 1-4)] is polycondensed in melt with a bisaryl carbonate (e.g. bisphenyl carbonate) by transesterification to give a polycarbonate resin melt, which is cooled by blowing to it an inert gas below the temp. of the resin melt. Thus, the surface of the resin is cooled to a temp. not allowing the oxidation of the surface and an almost colorless high-mol.-wt. polycarbonate resin is obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-molecular polycarbonate free from coloration, containing no chloride ion causing coloration and having no branched structure produced by side reaction by carrying out transesterification. CONSTITUTION:The objective polycarbonate is produced from a dihydric phenol such as bisphenol A and a carbonic acid diester such as diphenyl carbonate by carrying out transesterification in the presence of a nitrogen-containing basic compound catalyst. The straight-chain polycarbonate free from coloration and branched structure produced by side reaction can be obtained by this producing method.

CONSTITUTION:The above transesterification is performed in a reaction apparatus made of a ceramics. A colorless transparent high-molecular polycarbonate can be produced and can find a use where it can fully exhibit its transparency.
