Independent claims are included for: (1) preparation of the carbon black; and (2) device for executing the above process comprising a burner and a cooling surface against which the flame is directed, where the cooling takes place through a self-constricting gap, which has a height/width ratio of 1-100 mm, where the width is related to the upper edge of the gap and is 0.5-10 mm and the flow velocity at the narrowest point of the gap is 10-200 m/s.

Abstract: The invention relates to a carbon black having an aggregate size distribution which has a (d90-d10)/d50 ratio of less than or equal to 1.1. The carbon blacks are produced by admixing hot air if desired to a gas mixture comprising a carrier gas and a carbon black feedstock, passing the gas mixture into a burner pipe, burning the gas mixture at the burner pipe openings, and drawing the flames under suction, together with the ambient air drawn in freely under suction from the outside, through a cooled, narrowing gap, and carrying out cooling, the cooled, narrowing gap having a height (h) to width (b) ratio of 1-100, the width (b) being 0.5 to 10 mm, and the flow rate at the narrowest point of the gap being 10 - 200 m/s. The carbon blacks of the invention can be used as non- reinforcing filler, reinforcing filler, UV stabilizer, conductive black, pigment or reducing agent.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing carbon black or other flame aerosols, comprising the following steps: the heat is removed from the flame by dissipation and/or radiation; a thin gas boundary layer is formed; the fl ow formed by the flame and the gas boundary layer is accelerated or expanded; t he obtained aerosol is withdrawn; and the cooling surface is cleaned. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out such a method and a black carbon having a maximum pH value of 6.0, a maximum ignition residue of 0.1 percent, and a maximum 5~m screening refuse of 200 ppm. The inventive black carbon can be used in rubber, plastic, printing inks, inks, inkjet ink s, toners, lacquers, dyes, paper, bitumen, concrete, and other construction materials.
