Abstract: A method of transmitting symbols used for channel estimation and a transmitter are disclosed. The transmitter comprises a baseband processor configured to adjust the power level of an enhanced dedicated physical control channel allocated to a receiver based on at least one of a transmission rate and a transport format of a physical data channel allocated to the receiver, and transmit control channel symbols to the receiver over the enhanced dedicated physical control channel at the adjusted power level for use by the receiver in performing channel estimation. A method of performing channel estimation at a receiver and a receiver are disclosed. The receiver comprises a baseband processor configured to detect control channel symbols received from an enhanced dedicated physical control channel allocated to the receiver at a power level corresponding to at least one of a transmission rate and a transport format of a physical data channel allocated to the receiver; and perform channel estimation based at least in part on the detected control channel symbols. The receiver is the mobile station 104 for downlink communication and the radio base station 102 for uplink communication and the transmitter is the radio base station 102 for downlink communication and the mobile station 104 for uplink communication.

Abstract: A node (2) for use in a cellular communication system having interfering signals and employing interference cancellation techniques for mitigating the interfering signals comprises means (24) for obtaining a signal value representing power of a first signal. The node (2) further comprises means (25) for obtaining a precancellation interference value representing powers of signals interfering with the first signal before the interference cancellation is employed. A predictor (23) is arranged for predicting a postcancellation interference value after the interference cancellation as a function of the precancellation interference value. An estimator (29) is connected to the predictor (23) and the means (24) for obtaining a signal value. The estimator (29) is arranged for estimating a signal-to-interference ratio as a ratio between the signal value representing the power of the first signal and the predicted postcancellation interference value.
