Abstract: A wireless telecommunications system is provided in which mobile terminals requiring high transmission power are identified as being potentially disturbing to neighbouring cells. Information relating to the identified mobile terminals is sent to the neighbouring basestation, so that resource allocation decision can be made using such information.

Abstract: A distributed radio base station includes a first radio equipment controller (REC) node, a second radio equipment controller (REC) node, and a radio equipment (RE) node for transceiving information over a radio interface with one or more radio terminals. The first REC node and the second REC node are physically separate from the RE node. The first REC node and/or the second REC node are/is connected to the RE node by a transmission link. Synchronization reference information is provided to one of the REC and RE nodes. The synchronization reference information in the one node is compared with timing information received from another of the REC nodes to generate a timing difference. The timing difference is used to adjust a timing unit at the another node in order to achieve timing synchronization between the RE node, the first REC node, and the second REC node.

Abstract: A method of amplifying signals for transmission includes generating a signal in each of a plurality of subsystems. The subsystems each implement one of a plurality of radio access networks such that at least two different radio access networks are implemented. The method further includes amplifying signals generated by the subsystems with a power amplifier capable of amplifying input signals to a maximum power. The method also includes generating in each subsystem a power demand indicative of a power requested by that subsystem. Additionally, the method includes assigning a portion of the maximum power to each subsystem based upon the demands.

Abstract: An interface, apparatus, and method are described for communication between a radio equipment control (REC) node and a radio equipment (RE) node in a radi o base station that tranceives information over radio interface using multiple antenna carriers. The REC node is separate from and coupled to the RE node b y a transmission link. Both control information and user information are generated for transmission over the transmission link from one of the REC no de and the RE node to the other. Many advantageous interface features are described.

Abstract: A positioning system and an antenna in a cellular mobile network, for operators that requires no modifications to standard phones and terminals used in said network and capable of using a range of different positioning methods, comprising one or several LMU systems that makes radio measurement (GSM and GPS)and transmit measurement data needed in the geographical positioning procedure of said phone or said terminal. Said LMU systems are composed of two parts a main box unit, comprising-measure receiver block-mobile station block (when an air interface is used)-main functionality and GPS block-digital signal block antenna unit, which can be placed in a remote position.

Abstract: Each transmitter/receiver pair (12) of a radio base station (10) is connected via an antenna bus (92) and radio frequency feeder (26) to antenna near parts equipment such as active antennas (40), boosters (32) and tower mounted amplifiers (152). Automatic configuration and calibration of the antenna near parts equipment is accomplished by establishing communication between the base station and each of its connected antenna near part components. Each antenna near part component sends its identification (200) to the base station over the antenna bus at power-on. Furthermore, communications selectively sent over the radio frequency feeder are monitored to determine the connectivity between individual transmitter/receiver pairs of the base station and each antenna near parts equipment. These radio frequency feeder communications are further processed to determine (252) calibration data for configuring (254) each antenna near parts equipment for optimal operation.
