Abstract: A method of managing access request identifiers in a communication system comprising a radio network, said access request identifiers being associated with a first packet random access channel used by mobile stations in a first cell to request allocation of uplink transmission resources in the first step. The radio network controls which mobile stations are assigned access request identifiers and/or for how long accesss request identifiers remain assigned to individual mobile stations.
