Abstract: A spectacle frame comprises, as the hinge assembly between the front frame and side arm, a pivot pin fixed in the front frame and a half-hinge of the side arm. The half-hinge is connected to the side arm itself by means of a profiled connecting bar of elastic material, which slides in complementary longitudinal grooves or slots of both the half-hinge and the side arm. The purpose of the profiled connecting piece is to stretch when the side arm is opened outwards beyond its normal intended angle. Pref. the front end of the side arm bears against the front frame at a stop or abutment, whereas the corresponding front end of the profiled connecting bar stops short at a point slightly set back from this stop. When the angle of opening is exceeded relative sliding and stretching takes place, so that other components remain undamaged. Preferred material for the profiled connecting bar is an extrudable thermoplastics polymer, more specifically polyamide.

Abstract: The nose rest piece for spectacles can accommodate variations in the width of the users nose and are independently adjustable. The frame of the spectacles adjacent to the sides of the nose are cut to form a slot (15) following the line of the frame (10).
