    Abstract: Disclosed is a method of providing to a customer of an eyeglass (1) a rating of the eyeglass (1) with respect to protection provided by the eyeglass (1) against UV hazard taking into account reflections from the back face (1b) of the eyeglass (1). The rating is based on an index value, which quantifies a reduction in a total UV amount impinging onto an eye for a wearer of the eyeglass (1) with respect to UV exposure without the eyeglass (1). The method comprises the steps of: measuring UV intensity with a photometer for light (R) reflecting from a back face (1a) of the eyeglass (1); providing a value of UV transmission (T) for the eyeglass (1); providing a value of UV reflection (R) from a back face (1b) of the eyeglass; combining both values of the UV transmission (T) and the UV reflection (R) of the eyeglass (1) using an addition formula with non-zero positive factors respectively for the UV transmission (T) and UV reflection (R); calculating the index value from a non-zero base number divided by a result obtained in the combining step, the index value being based in part on measurements obtained in the measuring step and accounting for incident light that reaches an eye of the wearer from the back face (1b) of the eyeglass; and providing to a customer the rating for the eyeglass (1).

    Abstract: A method for molding a plastic ophthalmic lens which comprises introducing a liquid polymerizable composition in a molding cavity of a two-piece mold through a filling nozzle in flow communication with the upper half of the molding cavity and spaced apart from the central vertical axis of the molding cavity up to the time the lower half of the molding cavity is filled. Then, tilting the mold to bring the filling in register with the central axis of the molding cavity and achieving full filling of the molding cavity. Thereafter, polymerizing the composition and recovering the lens.
