Abstract:
The invention relates to a method using visible and/or near-ultraviolet light for the photopolymerisation of a composition free from mineral particles, comprising at least one photopolymerisable monomer and at least one photoinitiator which is selected from suberone derivatives and mixtures of an alpha -diketone and an organic peroxide. The invention is suitable for use in the production of ophthalmic lenses.
Abstract:
A lens has at least one insert ( 16, 28 ), which defines an optical path. For manufacturing the lens, the insert is first bonded to an overmould ( 36 ). A polymer ( 44 ) is then moulded in a mould ( 42, 36 ) formed on one of its faces from the overmould. After moulding, the overmould may be preserved and form part of the lens, if necessary after surface grinding. The overmould may also be separated from the lens; in this case, the lens is machined, removing at least part of the inserts. The lens obtained has an insert in a reproducible position, with an entrance or exit surface inducing no optical distortion.

Abstract:
Polymer composition obtained by polymérization of a polymerizable composition comprising: at least 50 % by weight of a monomer or a mixture of monomers of formula (I) wherein X is formula (II) and R and R' are H or CH3; 0-50 % by weight of one or more allylic, vinyl, acrylic or methacrylic mono or poly functional comonomer(s) (II): 0.2-10 % based on the weight of components (I) + (II), of a compound of formula (III) wherein R4 and R5 are hydrogen or a radical, R4 or R5 is a hydrogen atom, while the other forms a C5 or C7-C10 ring with R2; R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, alkyl which can be substituted by OH and/or interruped by an ether, ester or ketone function.
Abstract:
The process according to the invention is of the kind according to which an additive substance (11) is diffused in a controlled manner within a base substance (10) which, made up of at least one partially polymerised monomer capable of resulting in a homopolymer of refractive index N1, is in the state of a gel, the additive substance itself being made up of at least one monomer capable of producing a homopolymer of refractive index N2 which differs from N1. According to the invention the additive substance (11) chosen is a mixture of at least two monomers (A, B) and the composition of this mixture is varied with time. Application to the production of components made of synthetic substance of optical quality suited especially to the production of ophthalmic lenses.
Abstract:
This procedure is of the kind in which the absorption, by a base-polymer material, of an additive composition enclosing at least one monomer capable of leading to a polymer of different refractive index is ensured. … According to the invention, by choosing a swelling composition as the additive composition, a first preform (P1) is produced, with a first geometry (G1), from a polymer material at a rate of advance sufficient for it to be self-supporting, a confinement volume (14) is defined between this first preform and an abutment element having a second geometry (G2) corresponding to a greater volume, and it is brought into contact there with a quantity of swelling additive composition sufficient for the swelling, to which it is then subjected, to cause it to match, under stress, this second geometry (G2). … Application, especially, to the production of ophthalmic lenses. … …
