Abstract: A photomultiplier includes a photocathode and an electron multiplier. A typical structure of the electron multiplier is obtained such that a dynode unit constituted by stacking a plurality of dynode plates in the incident direction of photoelectrons, an anode plate, and an inverting dynode plate are stacked. The anode plate (5) has electron through holes at a predetermined portion to cause secondary electrons emitted from the dynode unit (13) to pass therethrough. Each electron through hole has a diameter on the inverting dynode plate side larger than that on the dynode unit side, thereby increasing the capture area of the secondary electrons orbit-inverted by the inverting dynode plate.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a photomultiplier tube with highly accurate position resolving power and less distortion in the periphery. CONSTITUTION: Electrons multiplied in an electron multiplying part 20 pass through each electron passing hole of an upper anode group 24 and a lower anode group 25, then are inverted with an inversion type diode 26. During inversion, electrons are further multiplied, and a plurality of electrons are released to the upper anode group 24 and the lower anode group 25. Although a plurality of electrons go ahead with specified spread, since each anode is formed in a plate shape and has a wide surface area to catch electrons, many electrons are caught by the anode near the released position before they reach the anode apart from the released position. The incident position of the electron is detected in high position resolving power with less crosstalk.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide uniform sensitivity for various positions of a photoelectric surface. CONSTITUTION:An electron multiplier 6 comprises dynodes 7 in the form of a square, flat plate, stacked one atop another in N stages. The dynodes of each stage have a plurality of electron multiplying holes formed by etching through the width of a plate and arranged in a matrix at predetermined intervals, the plate having a conductive surface. Anodes 9 and the dynodes 10 of the (N+1)th stage are disposed in that order beneath the dynodes 8 of the N-th stage. The anodes and the dynodes of the (N+1)th stage have a plurality of electron passing holes and a plurality of through holes, respectively, both formed by etching through the widths of respective plates and arranged in matrices at almost the same intervals as the electron multiplying holes of the dynodes of the N-th stage. Each electron passing hole is formed in a position where secondary electrons emitted from the electron multiplying holes of the dynodes of the N-th stage arrive. Each through hole is formed between plural positions where the secondary electrons emitted from the electron passing holes of the anodes arrive.
