Abstract: A fiber optics device (1) of this invention includes first and second assemblies. The first assembly (2) is obtained by integrating a plurality of optical fibers (21) by bundling, and has first and second end faces (22,23) formed obliquely to the optical axis of the optical fibers (21) contained in it. The second end face (23) has small recesses and projections to scatter light emerging from it. The second assembly (3) is obtained by integrating a plurality of optical fibers (31) by bundling, and has first and second end faces (32,33) substantially intersecting perpendicularly to the optical axis of the optical fibers (31) contained in it. The first end face (32) of the second assembly (3) is bonded to the second end face (23) of the first assembly (2). As a result, optical loss occurring at the bonding portion between the assemblies can be decreased.

Abstract: An optical component 10, formed with a plurality of optical fibers arranged parallel with each other, has an incident surface 10a obliquely cut with respect to the fiber axis, and an output surface 10b perpendicularly cut with respect to the fiber axis. The core 12 of each optical fiber with a square cross-sectional shape is divided equally into two areas 12a and 12b via a flat plate-like clad part 14 lying on the central axis of the core 12. Moreover, the optical fibers are arranged such that the dividing directions (t direction in FIG. 1B) of the divided cores 12 are irregular per each optical fiber. Furthermore, the periphery of each core 12 is covered with a clad 16.

Abstract: A fingerprint input apparatus includes a light source (2) for emitting light and a fiber optic plate(3) having a finger contact surface with which a finger(1)is brought into contact in order to pick up a fingerprint image of the finger(1). The light from the light source(2)is at first introduced into an inside of the finger(1), is scattered within the inside of the finger(1), and comes out of the finger through the surface of the finger(1)as outgoing light. By the use of the outgoing light, the fingerprint image is formed. The light source(2)is disposed so that the light from the light source(2)enters into a substantial center of a part of the finger(1)including a first joint on a palm side and that the light source(2)is contacted with the finger(1).

Abstract: A fiber optical block (10) is formed by a plurality of optical fibers (11) each consisting of a core region (12) and a clad region (13). The fiber optical block (10) has an input end face (14) consisting of first ends of the respective optical fibers and curved at least partially. The input end face (14) is pressed against a measurement surface of an object to be measured and having a curved surface. An optical image is formed by contact between the input end face and the measurement surface and is outputted from an output end face (15) of the fiber optical block. By using the optical image, the curved surface shape of the object to be measured is inspected. Thus, it is possible to realize a curved surface shape inspection method, a fiber optical block, and a curved surface shape inspection device capable of easily inspecting a curved surface shape.

Abstract: As shown in Fig. 1, an optical device 10 comprises an input optical member 11, in which a plurality of optical fibers 14 are arranged parallel to each other and integrally formed, having an entrance surface 11a and an exit surface 11b which form an angle of 31 DEG and a right angle, respectively, with the optical axis; and an output optical member 12, in which a plurality of optical fibers are similarly arranged parallel to each other and integrally formed, having an entrance surface 12a and an exit surface 12b which form an angle of 31 DEG and a right angle, respectively, with the optical axis; wherein the exit surface 11b of the input optical member 11 and the entrance surface 12a of the output optical member 12 are fixed in contact with each other. Here, while the exit surface 11b of the input optical member 11 is ground to yield an optically specular surface, the whole entrance surface 12a of the output optical member 12 is roughly ground to yield a rough surface having a center-line average roughness of 0.49 mu m.
