    Abstract: Tertiary alkylphosphines of the general formula R3P, in which R stands for identical or different, linear, unsubstituted alkyl groups having 3 to 20 carbon atoms, with the proviso however that one of the alkyl groups may be a secondary butyl group, are made by reacting hydrogen phosphide PH3 with an appropriate alkene or alkenes in stoichiometric excess, if desired, at elevated temperature and under increased pressure in contact with a radical-yielding agent. 2,2'-azobis-(2-methylbutyronitrile) is used as the radical-yielding agent in the absence of whatever alien solvent.

    Abstract: Secondary and tertiary phosphines and processes for their preparation The invention relates to secondary and tertiary phosphines of the formula in which R is hydrogen, an aryl or benzyl group or a straight-chain or branched alkyl group, n is 1 or 2 and M is potassium or sodium. These phosphines are prepared by reacting either alkali metal salts of fluorobenzene-2,4-disulfonic acid with phosphine or with primary or secondary phosphines, or secondary phosphines of the type HP¢C6H3-2,4-(SO3M)2!2 with a compound RX in which R is an alkyl, aryl or benzyl group and X is a halogen, in an aprotic solvent in the presence of at least stoichiometric quantities of a solid, powdered alkali metal hydroxide at temperatures of from 0 to 100.degree.C.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of phosphanes of the formulae RnPH3-n (I) or (II) in which R represents a straight-chain or branched alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl, benzyl or allyl group, n is 1 or 2, m corresponds to 2, 3 or 4 and A and B are identical or different and have either the meaning of R, hydrogen or a phenyl group, by reacting phosphene in the presence of a catalyst with reagents of the formula R-hal or hal(C(A)(B))mhal, in which R, A, B and m have the meanings mentioned and hal stands for chlorine or bromine, by using as a catalyst a tetraalkylammonium or tetraalkylphosphonium salt and carrying out the reaction in the presence of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide solution at temperatures between -20 and 200 .degree.C and at a positive pressure of 0 to 10 bar, in which process for each mole of hal at least 1 mole of alkali metal hydroxide is used.

    Abstract: HOE 91/H 031 Process for the preparation of tertiary phosphines A process is specified for the preparation of tertiary phosphines of the formula R'PR2 or R2P-¢CH2!3-PR2 in which R is an aryl, pyridyl or arylsulfonic acid group and R' is an aryl, pyridyl, arylsulfonic acid or n-butyl group, which comprises reacting phosphines of the formula HnPR"3-n or H2P-¢CH2!3-PH2 in which R" is hydrogen or an n-butyl, aryl or pyridyl group and n is 1 or 2 with a halogen compound of the formula X-R, in which R has the abovementioned meaning and X is fluorine, chlorine or bromine, in the presence of powdered potassium hydroxide and dimethyl sulfoxide and/or dimethoxyethane at temperatures between 0 and 100.degree.C, at least 1 mol of potassium hydroxide being used per mole of halogen compound.
